This is an email from a friend of mine back in Brazoria county. Fishing in Freeport. How would you like to catch these "trash fish" (he is being facicous (sp?)). Greg, I'm still tweeking the new rig, getting it ready for fall and winter fishing. I haven't been tearing them up but you never know when it will happen. For example, my son Sean and his brother-in-law went between the rivers Saterday evening. They'd given up and were headed in just before dark. As they approached the mouth of the Brazos they noticed fish busting the water close to the shoreline (the gulf was totally flat Saturday; less than 6 inches) so they went in to check it out. In the process the realized that they were in acres of tarpon that were feeding on pogie. They had some pogie that they'd been using for bait earlier so they baited up and pitched out and they both had fish on as soon as the bait hit the water, but not tarpon. Trash fish in the form of 30-40# bull reds. They were rigged up with 7000 Garcias so they got the fish in and released them only to repeat the same thing over and over until they were exhausted. We considered going back Sunday morning but as I suspected, the Hurricane was already showing signs locally in the form of 2-3' waves when I checked it out on the computer Sunday morning at 4:30 am.
