I have not heard from Dean but I did talk to my mom and they barely could tell a hurricane was abound. The winds got up some and barely any rain. They did loose power but have it back on now. I figure I will give him a call in the near future.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Dean is on the right side of the storm much like we were with Katrina and we are just barely far enough away from Rita. 35-50 mph gusts here in south La. Very little rain and no damage in area I live other than my neighbor has a small tree down in front yard. We lost power from right after midnight until about 9am this morning but luckily back up and running. Reported strong tidal surge in all our bayou areas such as Cocodrie, Dulac, and my fishing grounds Dularge. Water went over all the earthen flood levees. They are not hurricane levees rather just forced drainage levees and only about 6-8 ft tall. Saying they are seeing water further North than they have ever seen. Coastal errosion taking its toll. Waiting on the local station's trucks to get back to see some of the sites. It still just amazes me the numbers of people driving around in these weather conditions. My sister lives in Lafayette and reporting about the same conditions. Good luck to everyone from Lake Charles to Galveston. It will be one heck of a ride.

Yes, the bayou areas are a complete disaster. Water everywhere. Really disheartening to see. If you see pictues of Terrebonne Parish on the national news, that is where I live but on the high end of the parish and not the flooded stuff you will see on TV. Will be some major rebuilding if people still want to live down there. Just can't imagine it being my house. I have about 8 shingles off I will have to repair and luckily no other damage. My brother's in-laws house has nearly 4 ft of water in it!

I talked to Dean today and they are fine, just cleaning up the pine needles and downed branches.

Still no word on my family that lives down South of Houma. Hopefully everything is ok down there.

Mike from the video I've seen of Chauvin the one's I know the area they live in they probably have water in their house unless they are elevated at least 4 ft. The tidal surge down there was unbelievable. I videotaped some for you to show you at Capote. I'm pretty sure Wes has a VCR anyway.

Mom told me that Charles built his house 8' off the ground so hopefully they were all at his house.

Thanks for the update Wade, I will talk to mom again in the morning and see if they had any luck getting in touch with them. I know some are in Berg<sp?> also.

They are fine then. Bourg area was fine as far as I know with water coming up in Montegut on that bayou. Most water I heard of anywhere was in Pointe-aux-chien which had about 8 ft of water.

Thanks for the concern guys, I would have posted but I dont typically turn the computer on at home - I do it all week and don't want to see it any more than I have to.

I posted another string about our experience.

It amazes me that the forcast could be so varied. We originally thought Rita was going into Freeport/Matagorda and it was going to be CAT 4 or 5. If that would have happened, we would have some horror stories to tell - Im sure! Thanks to God for His diversion. We have been blessed!

Wade, Glad to hear everything went OK over there - I was worried about ya'll over there.
All In A Days Fun!!!
