My brother and I along with our buddy David Beshears made our first of 2 trips to Kansas this past week. We hunted in the Public Mined Land area near Oswego. All I can say is they have got plenty of deer running around that part of the state. Our first night was messed up by a major thunderstorm but after that I saw at least 2 deer every sitting. I hunted in a group of oak trees on a creek bottom heading towards a bean field. On the second evening I passed on a nice 11 pointer. I had him at 20 yards broad side but decided he was only around 125 inches and only 3 1/2. He was hard to pass up with him being a main frame 11 but we still had our November hunt so I was being a little picky this time. The rest of the hunts were pretty uneventful with small bucks filtering by. My brother saw plenty of does and young bucks. David had a huge buck come in right at dark but did not offer a shot. They both could have shots does but we did not get any doe tags yet. We may have to buy some meat tags when we go back. We were all very impressed with the amount of deer for public land. We're just hoping the bigger boys will come out to play in November. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. Congrats on what sounds like a great trip. I told you you would have little trouble figuring out where to set up. I can't wait to get over there. It is hard to pass up on those bucks. Can't believe you did not get any doe tags. It really is a snook!!!!

Sounds like a fun time. 125 is a trophy almost everywhere but Kansas. Good luck when you go back. |

Sounds like a successful hunt none the less -- congrats on a great time. On that 125" buck, he was probably more like 135 - 140 and it is misleading with the body size of those deer... Way to exercise restraint (everyone knows what I would have done)... Looking forward to the next report and any pictures ya'll took this trip. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Probably more like a 150 to 160 class deer.

We were so busy scouting and moving stands between hunts that we never made it to town to buy a doe tag. We will make that a priority on the next hunt. Mike, It's funny that you said that about them scoring higher than texas hunters expect. I was thinking the same thing after I let him walk. I said to myself he would probably of been more like 145. He wasn't going to get a second chance if he came by again. It's going to be a long 4 weeks waiting to go back. Then I've got to come back and hunt those little Hagerman deer. Life is tuff right now. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. My bass club webpage http://texbass.8m.com/

That is a tough life... Kansas then Hagerman... Sucks to be you Mark, really sucks... My daughter's best friend's father will be hunting Hagerman segment A and then again during the doe segment. I really hope you stick 2 excellent bucks this year. You need something to spend all that tournament winnings on... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

My goal is to get 1 good buck out of Kansas, Hagerman or Mason. I will be scouting Hagerman up until the next Kansas trip. The good thing about Hagerman now is if you shoot a doe in the vitals you are automatically in the next years hunt. So I will be looking for a good doe spot as well. Finally set my dates to go Tex. I'll be there 11/10 thru 11/26/05. Geese, pheasant, quail, duck, and hopefully a deer or two should get shot at at the least!!! I'm not promising to hit anything but they will know I was there. It really is a snook!!!!
