To say that this has been a great season so far would be an understatement. It all started back on opening morning when I found myself harvesting my first doe of the season. Followed that with another doe at Capote the next weekend. Well, I needed to run over to the lease this Saturday to pick up some things for the upcoming TPWD Public Draw Hunt that Wes and I are going on next week at Richland Creek WMA. I loaded up my oldest daughter and after her soccer game we ran over to Jacksboro to top off feeder, pick up gear, and sneak in a sweltering afternoon hunt.

We settled into the blind shortly after 5:00pm and the heat was draining. She kept her spirits up and was excited to be there for the hunt no matter how hot it was.

We chatted a little, giggled a little, and listened intently at the sounds of the wild. The Hoyt was locked, loaded, and ready to go.

Our first visitors were a pair of bovines but they did not stay for long and we continued to wait. Some cloud cover had blessed us and soon we heard the unmistakable sounds of purrs and clucks. A peek out of the double bull window revealed a nice group of gobblers coming into the feeder for the evening meal. The excitement on Jessica's face was priceless as I picked up the hoyt to ready for the shot. I turned on the video camera tried to pick one that was in front of the feeder and a longer beard. There were some birds with exceptionally long beards but they were not feeding up front and center so I opted to take a slightly shorter bearded bird and gently touched the release. It was over in a flash and my turkey flopped where he once stood -- the MOJO strikes again... :-)

We exchanged some high fives, thumbs up, and said a prayer together thanking God for what we have. I crawled out of the blind and retrieved the bird then came back in to wait a little longer. Jessica wanted a feather off the bird so I gladly ablidged.

We sat in the blind for a little while and she decided that she wanted to go since we still had to drive home. All the talk about hogs out there has her spooked of walking in the dark. :-) It was still quite warm so I was eager to get the bird cleaned so the meat would not spoil. We exited the blind and took a few LDPs and headed out.

I have the shot on video but realized this morning that I never loaded the software on my new PC. Wes and I leave for our hunt on Monday morning so I may not be able to get the video loaded for a week.

It was a great evening in the blind with my daughter and I look forward to the next time that we get to hunt together.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Congrats on the bird and good luck on the next hunt! I was afraid someone out there had shot Humper when I first saw this thread. :-)
