Well I left from Lafayette La at 1 am on 11/10/2005 and arrived just South of Great Bend, Ks on the same date. After a few needed mixed drinks and a good supper, it was off to lala land. Friday found me searching for my uncle to get the info I needed for my HOL deer tag. Found him but realized after (you would think this would have hit me sooner considering I'm a state employee and the whole reason I was able to travel on Th) that KDWP was closed due to Veteran's day! Doooooohhhhh! No deer license until Tuesday at earliest. Oh well, pheasant season opened Saturday and myself, my dad, and my dad's group from Tx and Ok really put a slam on them Saturday and Sunday. I think we wound up with 43 pheasants and 32 quail. Not bad considering the misses and around 6 lost birds. The dogs just did not seem to be able to pick up scents on any birds due to I guess just to dry. Had a much smaller group on Monday but still did considerably well.
The rest of the 12 days mainly found me archery hunting deer with absolutely no luck. I saw three bucks. One big bodied 9 pt that I just could not bring myself to shoot on the first night after much deliberation considering he hung out 15 yds from me posing broadside to quartering away for a good 4 minutes. I took some pictures but found out pictures do not come out very well with shoot thru mesh on. The rest of the days hunting were very slow considering I only saw about 6 deer total while on stand. Weather, full moon, loss of some prime land I used to have permission to hunt, and just the absolute abscences of any parties of bird hunters on the leased grass lands did me in.

A few pixels which I lacked to do much of:

ZABROKY why do you want to go Turkey hunting at Wes' for? It's all about Kansas SON!! 49 turkeys in the front yard one Day.
Taken out of the front window!
Turkeys in flight
More turkeys in the back yard the next!
Backyard scene

And a 4 pt out in the SW corner of the yard at the same time! Boy do I wish I had a camera like Rob. :-)
Small buck in the yard same time as the turkeys
My favorite group with a few pheasants.
What a good looking group!
The main reason I had trouble getting people to go bird hunting. Papa likes riding them around more than the kids like riding around I believe!

All the grandkids were there for once.

And both my brothers which was quite different.
I guess he thinks he is a model or a fighter??

And can't forget the mama who had her favorite thing to do also. Love those grandkids.

And a solo! What a good looking guy.

It was an absolute blast despite the lack of deer movement and already ready for next year. It will kill me Wed when I realize my brother and two good family friends will be on their way back for rifle season. I don't even want to think about it! :-(

Can you find the deer? Like looking for Waldo. Shoot thru mesh and cameras don't mix well.

Great report Bigun. Sorry to hear you didn't get a deer. Sounds like your hunt was a lot like ours. I passed on a heavy buck that had 5 points on one side and 2 on the other. I was hoping for something better but only saw small deer the rest of the week. We are thinking about going back in the middle of December to see if they will hit the feeding areas a little more after the rut.
If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related.

Great set of pictures Wade. Looks like everyone had a great time. Congrats on the pheasant and quail. Not being able to see the buck, I cannot say if I would have shot it either or not.

I bet they kill a deer or two during the rifle hunt... :-)

Yep, my father's day present is smushed. Somehow it fell out of my vest underneath the truck while I was tieing my boots and it got run over when my dad was bringing me deer hunting.
Trent is probably worse than you from what I saw him shoot.

I hate a turkey!

But I love me some ringers!

Nicely done Wade, and that's as great a family as I've seen.
