I am an old schooler and rarely try the new baits. I was in Academy the other day and the stuff on the shelves that I have never seen before was incredible.

What's the newst, hottest thing on the shelf right now?

These seem to be hot right now. They were used to win an event on Toho two weeks ago and several of the FLW guys used them.

There is a three week wait for on line orders.

Last year seemed to be the year of the shaky head worm. Bite-me jig heads make some really neat heads for this technique. I'm down sizing most of my tackle. Going with light line and smaller baits. Hard-nose makes some pretty cool soft plastic baits. They will be coming out with a Senko or stick type bait that has a tougher center so it wont tear as easy. And of course you have the Sweet Beaver.

Those radlures look like they would be a good redfish bait. Wonder how shallow of water you can fish them in and what is the price on them?

I have to agree with Charles. I am doing a lot more fishing(and catching) with the drop shot rig than I ever thought I would.

Bigun, they do have a good swimming action. Guys are using them in grass. We don't have any grass up here but they look like the would work in flooded timber. Of course we would need rain for that.
Bigun have you ever used the Gene Larew long john minnow? http://www.genelarew.com/saltwater/sminnow.htm
I use the fresh water one for everything that swims. The saltwater one looks good as well.

Mike, I use just regular bell sinkers and tie an over hand knot. Mojo makes a good weight that is long and thin. If you put a slight bend in it, it will not hang up as bad. If you have not tried the shaky head worm, you need to. A guy at Table Rock makes a jig head with a wire bait keeper built into the head. You can thread a worm on it and Texas rig it and it looks natural. I am trying to find a mold but for now I am just ordering them.

Charles, here is the bite-me web site.
http://www.bitemejigs.com/
They make some good heads.

I am ordering mine from Ozarks Bait and Tackle (Ozarks Bait & Tackle, Kimberling City, MO 1-417-739-1116
I like the jig heads I described above with the built in wire bait keeper. Let me know if this helps.

Those radlures would work well for redfish around here then. I've never tried the Gene Larew minnows. Not many dealers around stock this brand. I'll have to check Academy and see if they have any.

I've never technically used drop shot for bass. Not much deep water around here. We used to rig up tube jigs this exact way for crappie fishing around here. Not sure how we started this but was well over 20 years ago and really don't remember the last time I tried it. But it did work well.

We used a "crappie rig" growing up. Same basic concept but it took some californian to make it cool to use for bass.
I like the Gene Larew minnows because of their thin profile. It seems to generate better action than a sassy shad. Contact them and tell them about your guide service. I bet they would work a deal with you on some lures. If not let me know and I might be able to send you some.

I never have tried crappie fishing with the jig above the weight -- that I can recall...

I cannot wait to get on the water again... Maybe I will invent some new fishing style and start a new trend... :-)

Charles, I just ordered 60 jig heads from Ozarks. They were .45¢ each for the 1/8th and 3/16th ounces and .49¢ each for the 5/16th.

Here is a picture of the football head style available through Bass Pro.

The ones I ordered are round headed. They also have ones similar to spot stickers.
