I have only trolled for whites using crankbaits, etc. or thrown lures to them when I could see them schooling on top. I am wanting to fish for them with minnows, but was wondering what the best way to set up my rig was?? Anyone got any ideas.

I use a barrel swivel with a slip weight above it and a 12 - 18 inch leader under the swivel. Then I tie on a crappie hook and start fishing. This is just like setting up a carolina rig for bass fishing but a significantly shorter leader.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Same as Mike. Size of weight determined by depth and drifting vs anchored. Size of leader determined by water clarity. Good luck.

Thanks guys. As soon as the boat gets back from the mechanic I am headed to the lake. Hopefully next weekend.

The minnows are for the wife and kids Rob. :-)

A finess minnow on a 1/16 oz jighead is my bait of choice for sandies and crappie.

Ya'll should have some fish moving up the creeks pretty soon down there. Right now, there should also still be a healthy population staging at the mouths of the creeks waiting to make the spawn run.

With the low lake water levels many of the smaller creeks are dry.
