I posted on a couple pf threads related to the Bassmaster Classic. I don't have time to re-tell the entire event but I will answer any questions I can here. So fire away.

Later in the week I will be able to give more details.

Ok a couple of tidbits.

1) Ike went what we are dubbing DYNO-MIKE. I truly believe this was not a media stunt. He wanted to do well in this tournament and after a tough day where he wasn’t catching the size of fish he wanted and then having them die, I just think he lost it. Toyota is a six-figure sponsor for him and what they say goes. Look for a more subdued Ike in the future.
2) I actually passed Rick Morris, second place finisher, in the canal connecting the Kissimmee lakes. I thought, “poor guy, he doesn’t have a clue.” Truth was he was on a pattern that nobody else had. He was throwing the new Chatter Bait on braided line and came real close to winning the whole thing.
3) The Chatter Bait may be the real thing. A ton of pros are using them. They have great action and are easy to fish. Getting one at a decent price will be the hard part.
4) Greg hackney is the real deal. He may be the most perceptive angler I have ever met.

Sounds like a great trip Dru. I'm sure you learned a ton in the boat with all that experience. I've watched Hackney fishing on TV and he just seems like the real deal. Hope you told him you knew a cajun that would love to bring him redfishing! :-)

Great report Dru. I bet BASS wasn't real happy about Luke winning if he isn't fishing the tour next year. I wonder if it will affect his exposure in the magazine this next year.

I had a feeling Toyota would have a talk with IKE. I didn't see him on TV for the day 2 weigh in. I figured he wouldn't be saying much.

Thanks for the updates Dru... I checked out some of the coverage on BZ and will finish browsing the rest of it soon.

Bummer on the camera dude...

It is said that the Classic will determine lure success and based on the success of the chatter bait... They better open a bigger shop soon or sell out to someone who can handle the volume.

I had a feeling Toyota would not be too happy with Ike. I know he lost a few points in my opinion poll... I can't stand it when my children throw a temper tantrum and I would expect more from any professional.

A day in the boat with Gerald Swindel... That would be a blast. He is a riot.

Good stuff Dru, thanks for keeping us posted.

Ike was a no-show at the press room.

Luke has won over a million dollars in the last 3 years. he does NOT own a house, just travels around fishing. 27 years old, what a life! He would not comment on his affiliation with BASS. He could try and qualify through the Opens or Weekend Series, but who knows. He will get exposure. Toyota and some of his other sponsors will make sure of that. But your right Mark, he won't get a lot of press in the magazine. What are the odds of him being on the cover? 50/50?

Bigun, I did talk to Hackney. He likes to Redfish so maybe we can work out some details when things slow down for him.

Even though Toyota and Berkley stood behind Ike, Ranger told him to hit the road. Not to worry, I'm sure he will find another boat deal soon.

No doubt about that. I would have absolutely no love loss from being rejected by Ranger. They are close to bottom of the barrel to me these days. Nothing like the boats they use to be.
