I finally got to fish this weekend. I headed down to Texoma on Saturday to pre-fish for a tournament on Sunday.

By the time I picked up the boat and made it to the lake it was almost 10:00 a.m. I messed around in Alberta Creek for a while then headed south. I went into a couple of areas that I had not been to and did not catch anything. I headed over to Preston point and fished a cove on the east side of the point.

I caught one striper that weighed around 7 lbs. She hit a gold rattletrap. I had a couple more swipes at the bait but did not hook up. I moved to another cove and on the second cast I caught 3 lb Kentucky. So I moved on and tried to find similar conditions.

We had a pre-tournament meeting at the Catfish Bay Marina at 4:00 p.m. so I ended the day with only one keeper bite and no idea what to do on Sunday.

Sunday morning we started at the RR Bridge, along with several other tournament boats and a couple of striper guides. My partner caught a keeper spot pretty quickly but that was the only 14 inch fish we could put in the boat from there. After an hour of fishing we headed to the area where I had caught the 3 lb.’er. I was able to catch another spot but this one only weighed 1.7 lb.’s.

We stayed in that area until 11:00 a.m. without getting another bite. We then headed to Soldier creek and fished there without any luck either. At about 12:30 we moved to another cove. The wind picked up and so did the fishing. We found a stretch of bank that was holding some good fish. We were able to fill out our limit and cull once. We ended the day with 11.76 lbs and 10th place overall in the tournament.

We had 3 smallmouths, one spot and one black. The black was our big fish and weighed almost 4 lbs. I caught her on a jerk bait at the same time my partner caught a 2 lb smallie. Somehow we got them in the net at same time.

It was a good time for us. The winning weight was 16.12 (all largemouths). Big fish was a 5.20 smallie. 95 teams competed and first place paid $5,000.

Congrats Dru on a strong finish. Hopefully Oz and I can finish like that or higher this weekend in Bass Champs.

Way to go Dru. I haven't caught many but those smallies are fun.

Good luck Mike and OZ. If T-Wok fishes anything like Texoma, throw crankbaits up shallow. We keyed on rocks and other cover close to deep water. Water temp was 51-55 degrees where we got bit. Catch a big sack and make us proud.

The only rocks that are wet on T-wok are the ones at the dam. The rest of the shoreline is sand, sand, and more sand.... :-)

We will key in on shorelines with wood on them and hopefully we can fall in line and pick up some of the scraps around the only boat docs with water under them.

That's a nice stringer for Texoma. Congrats on the 10th finish.
