Was a very rough weekend of fishing and boy am I pooped! Friday AM I decided to bring my dad and brother fishing due to I needed to do some scouting in my new bay boat for a trip I had Sunday. All I can say is I found out where not to go. Strong S winds and high tides just had the fish scattered out apparently. Only got on one pile of fish at a cut in the marsh resulting in about 14 keepers and about the same in throwback trout. Caught a few more spot hopping but just never got on a good bite. Got back, cleaned the boat, and it was time to hop in the go-devil to bring out some of PSC's customers.

Well the wind was really rocking by this time. Stuck my nose up against a bank and floated with the wind. Found plenty of redfish willing to hit the Mann's minus one crankbait but boy did we miss some fish. Ended up with 10 keeper reds, a 1/2 dozen or so trout, but lost at least 9 reds. Sorry forgot to take any pictures.

Saturday morning I was suppose to bring out the same customers but when we go there one of the guys in the other boat decided he did not want to fish so having the smaller of the two boats I was elected to bring the one customer and Gerald took my two from the night before. Got to the same area as the night before and the reds were on. I had five in the box in no time but poor Brian was just having trouble figuring it all out. We finally got him on track and he did his thing while I caught and released many more. All reds caught on the crankbait again.

I got home Sat night and called my charter for Sunday trying to cancel due to I knew the switching N wind and drop in temperature was going to spell disaster for Sunday but he would hear none of it. Let me tell it was miserable out. As low of tide as you can find, chocolate water, and howling N wind made it impossible to fish anywhere. Fished until 2'oclock to catch 4 trout, 2 reds, and 2 flounder. Finally pack it up and riding in what do we find but birds feeding in a cut. A few quick casts confirmed it was trout and we caught about ten keepers and released the same when two boats come idling thru the cut across a mud flat and the bite disappeared. At least we ended the day right. Once again forgot to take pictures. I'm ready for a break and looking forward the Capote Fins and Feathers drink-a-thon in a couple weekends.

Very nice Wade... No matter what the conditions you always seem to put 'em on some fish... Great job!
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

As always, Great job Wade. Consistently getting fish in the boat seperates the men from the boys. You are the Man.

Rob, I hit several lakes this weekend looking for reds on the banks in places they are usually at by now and saw nada. They are still buried in the mud on the shallowest flats they can find deep in the marsh. Inside of gill plates are just mud coated and they have a lot of leachy parasites on their bellies. I expect the grass will start growing soon and push them out into open water.

Rob, We were catching them on spoons a few weeks ago but the packs of fish were just real spooky and you had to really throw at them a lot to catch one fish. When we cleaned them they were engourged with small croaker. Put two and two together and tried the crankbaits and these spooky fish would actually turn around and come hit the crankbait and several of them would hit the crankbait while in the other reds mouth. The crab thing was over a month ago and let me tell you when they were eating those little crabs they were absolutely engourged with them. Several of them had a handful of crab in the their belly. The trout are all over the shrimp right now. There is more shrimp in the marsh right now than I can ever remember. When that N wind hit Sunday, I was idling in a canal with good outgoing current and they were all over in my prop wash like it was the fall.

Juvi croakers are fattening them up. Good to hear the shrimp are coming along in a grand way this year. Should make for some serious fishing in the next few weeks?

I'm watching The Deadiest Catch and it's cool to see the F/S Northwestern tucking in behind Amak Island to dodge a Bering Sea storm. We hid behind that island during my worst trip up there years ago. Wild seas up there.
