I have been waiting for the results to come up on the site to give me an idea of the rest of the field but they still have not posted it.

I showed up at registration on Saturday and the tournament director was looking for boaters because he had 12 non-boaters he was going to have to send home. He was willing to pay $75 of the $125 extra to be a boater v. non-boater. I thought hard about it and talked to some guys out there who convinced me to pony up the $50 and make a fool out of myself.

Anyway, I drew a great guy as a non-boater and Sunday morning we were off on a lake I had not been on since the BassChamps event when it was 4 foot lower. The massive winds Friday night and the dramatic temperature change really put a hurt on the fish and it was a tough bite.

I finished in a tie for 22nd place (I believe) out of 66 boats and almost got excited when it was announced that my 5.3 pounder was leading big bass. We were in the last check in flight and I was not sure how many more were left to weigh in. It did not take too long though and someone brought in a 6.3 to bump me down and he won big bass -- oh well.

I will say this, it was an experience out there and I learned a few lessons that I will not let happen to me again. My non-boater was a lot of fun to have in the boat and a ton of help. I just wish he could have put a keeper in the boat and used my weight to help him get a check.

Here is my 5.3 lb fish:

I boated one other bass but it was a 13" monster. It was almost time to head in and I picked up my 8-10 foot Norman crank and hoped to get one more in the last 5 minutes. 3 casts into it I set the hook and my rod doubled over. I told my non-boater, "I got a good one!" He looked at my rod and was exclaiming all kinds of words... I fought that fish and about 10 foot from the boat it came up and rolled over, revealing it's true self as a 6 - 7 pound blue cat... So much for that excitement... My non-boater also hauled in a nice catfish on a CR gulp lizard earlier in the afternoon. We could of at least made a good dinner... :-)

I guess I will have to finish the year as a boater now that I have some points. I am tied for 43rd overall in points out of 84 boats. The cut for the championship is 30th. If I do not make the regional championship, I still get to fish the 2nd chance event and hopefully qualify for the national championship (yea right :-) )
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I was shocked at the low weights and the low numbers. It was not a banner day on the T-wokness monster.

I caught my dink on my chart/white bull dog spinnerbait and my keeper on a chart rattle trap. Guess I forgot to mention the striper fisherman who landed a 7 pound bass on a 4" sassy shad shortly after passing us on the dam -- he enjoyed rubbing it in... :-) Then there was the guy who beat me to a boat doc I wanted to fish and boated a 2 pound keeper... Oh well... Whatya' gunna do...

Mike, congratulations on your good finish in the tournament! While you were fishing the Bass tournament, I was fishing the Striper tournament on Tawakoni. How did you like that “Tawakoni Ocean”? I can’t remember the last time I was so wet in a boat. We fished near the dam in the 4’ rollers. At the end of the day, we finished in 2nd place, a little over a pound out of 1st.

On Friday we helped a guy with a sunken boat. As we headed to Holiday at weigh-in time, we watched as 2 guys ran aground on a sand bar and 2 waves later their boat sank. We pulled their boat to the ramp at Holiday, but not before it rolled over with the bottom facing the sky.

We fished on Sunday Keith -- thank goodness... I heard it was a rough and tumble day on Saturday. A couple of boats capsized was the rumor I heard. Ozzie said he was out there pre-fishing and speared a big wave in his 22' triton. I looked at the wind when I woke up Saturday and opted not to put my boat on the water... :-)

HUGE Congrats on your 2nd place finish. I cannot imagine being out there fishing in that weather. Bring on some pictures big boy... :-)

Nice recap Mike. If your goal to make the championship stick with it. Your only 13 places out and as the series winds down a lot of the pros will start dropping out, which should propel you to the top. Don't forget us little guys:-)

Keith,

Congrats on your 2nd place. I bet you had sea legs at the end of the day. Also, kudo's for helping the sinking boat guys.

It has been at least 12 years since I last fished Richland Chambers and that was the only time I have fished it. I need to get down there and pre-fish a few times to get familiar with the lake. I have a feeling this could be a blowout for me unless I just get lucky and stumble onto some fish.

One thing is for sure, I have a lot of work to do to make it there... Trust me, I will be just as shocked as ya'll if I make the championship -- especially after taking a zero on the first event.

I was talking to another competitor who will more than likely make the championship and it may be easier to make it to the National Championship by fishing the 2nd Chance tournament for all those who did not finish in the top 30 but fished all 4 events. It will be a smaller field of boats and the top 30 guys will not be there.

Anyway, I hope I do well at Richland and Cedar Creek and get a chance to compete in the 150 boat Regional Championship. It would be a hoot just to make it that far and the Regional payout is pretty nice for a no-entry fee tourney -- $50,000 for first place boater.

8 winners from the 2nd Chance from each region will join the 8 winners from each regeional championship to move on to the National Championship and compete for a first place prize of $100,000.00

I have looked at some of the other divisions in our region and the oklahoma bunch does not even have 30 boats. They will probably send everyone to the regional championship. I have a feeling the 2nd chance event will have fewer boats than the regional championship.
