The kids and I headed out to Lake Bonham for an afternoon of fishing and fun. Usually this little lake is a tremendous bass fishery. Today was not one of the shining days in the history of Bonham. Although we did manage to catch some fish, it was nothing like the times in the past when it was 20+ bass in an afternoon – oh well. Cruizin the “No Wake” zone Picking up a little speed The girls absolutely love riding in the boat. They were holding their hands in the air like they were on a roller coaster. They were giggling and laughing the entire time. We must have made 15 trips around that lake and they loved every minute of it. The plan was for me to get a little bass fishing in and they could have their special snacks. It didn’t take long for them to want to start fishing so I drug out their rods and they went at it. Soon after they began fishing Jessica hung into her first one. Jessica’s first for the day It didn't take long and I caught my first bass on a black/blue bitsy bug w/ lizard tail as a trailer. My daughter tried to take a picture but all she got was the tail and my legs. Since the wind was blowing pretty hard and the girls wanted to use the worms, I took us to the back of the cove where the water was calm and I could see some perch swimming around. It did not take long for Jessica to hang into another perch Jessica’s next one Then Corey got into the action Then Jessica caught another And on and on and on… There were many times that I was dealing with 2 perch at a time dangling in front of me. They were having a blast catching these perch and we worked on setting the hook. Jessica got pretty good at setting the hook and Corey still has room to improve but coming along fine. We probably spent the next hour or so with the girls catching one perch after another. Finally they must have fished out the hole and it slowed down and they released me to go back to bass fishing – how nice of them They started eating their snacks and I started bass fishing again and managed to boat one more bass before I reached my limit of hearing them complain about it being hot and how much they wish they could go swimming. I turned to them and said “If you are hot, take off your t-shirts, shoes, and socks then put your life jackets back on.” They thought that was a good idea so they got busy and thought it was neat. While they were occupied, I pulled the boat out into deeper water away from all the structure. I tossed out the anchor and walked to the back of the boat. I leaned over the edge and told them to come see this “thing” in the water. Once I had them both looking over the side of the boat I gave a gentle shove and they tumbled overboard in unison. It was hilarious and at first they were very concerned but with a little convincing they let go of the boat and went to swimming. Girls having fun in the lake I jumped in with them and we swam for a while having a great time at the lake. I really wish we would have done this more often this summer. They sure do love the water. Usually we hit the lake with the boat at least a couple times a month but this summer we never made it out as a family until today – it was great. Once we got out of the water we dried off and took a few minutes in the sun to dry our shorts then we went for another boat ride and a little more fishing. Soon after we started fishing, Corey caught yet another perch and I ended up with a fairly large goggle-eye on the bitsy bug. We got into some pads and fished for a while but the writing was on the wall and we needed to head out to meet my wife at the restaurant for dinner. So we took the final boat ride for the day and headed out – finishing out a great afternoon on the lake with my girls.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

It definitely makes a difference, Mike. If they are never exposed to it, how will they know they like it? |

On Lavon, if you go to the south side of the island where the cut is this time of year, the sandies usually stack up about an hour before dark and it is non-stop action. I have not done it in years, but we used to hit it 2 or 3 times a week with great success. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I know right where you are talking about Mike. I didn't go over there cause the lake was pretty rough and I didn't want to beat the wife and kids to death. Becareful going through that cut, someone installed a fence post in the middle. You will hit it if not careful.
