No Bueno for me. Fished a tournament Saturday and didn't catch a keeper bass. My partner caught two keepers and lost four keepers at the boat.

I did catch three grande cat fish and a turtle.

My partner and I went to Lake Murray (South of Ardmore, OK) to pre-fish for a tournament we have on the 30th. We have only been to this lake a couple of times so our plan was to cover a lot of water and try to find areas that were holding fish.

The lake is full of small smallmouths, but to win a tournament you need at least one kicker largemouth. We got on a top water bite early but the fish were hitting it funny. They were slapping the bait or missing it completely. I had a couple on that came off and landed a couple of smallies that measured right at 14 inches. (for this tournament the minimum length is 12 inches.)

As soon as the clouds went away so did the top water bite. We found a few fish up shallow but they were not locked onto beds and they were very skittish. The water is extremely clear with visibility down to about 8 foot.

We did locate some largemouths but again, not the size we were hoping for. I don’t know what it will take to win but after Sunday’s practice, I feel like we can only put 10 -12 pounds in the boat. Probably not even enough to make a check.

Overall, we caught a lot of fish and a little too much sun. It was a fun day and I am looking forward to this weekend.

Sorry, No pics.

You know where I was. The three circus midgets tried catching some catfish in the Guadalupe with no luck while I watched drinking adult beverages. I refused to touch a rod this weekend! :-)

Dru, you should have thrown a wacky worm on top of where you got the bite. A few years ago on Fork, we kicked arse when the fish were doing the same thing. They would come up and just boil the topwater bait but not take it. Would drop the rod and throw a wacky worm right past the topwater bait and it was fish ON!!! Just thought I would pass that on.
Quit being a mad, little bald man!

I can't afford the gas to go fishing. I think I'm going to buy a two man boat and start fishing the small lakes around Sherman. I can recharge a battery alot cheeper than filling a boat/truck with gas and driving an hour to a lake.
If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related.

I hear ya' Tex... Gas costs have prevented me from hooking up and heading out for an afternoon of fishing.

Depending on the weather, I want to take the kids crappie fishing Friday evening. We will just have to wait and see.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish
