I got skunked today! I made a bad decision somewhere and caught two barely keeper speckle trout burning nearly 35 gallons of gas and wasting nearly 400 larsh. I woke up this morning thinking the weatherman missed again due to nowhere was there 10-20 SE winds blowing. I almost made it to the coast and realized they did know what they were talking about with the winds steadily picking up. Fished a bunch of coastal protected water and saw little to no sign of any form of activity. I guess I should have macho'd up and made the run to the island to seek the reward I wanted to get my arse handed to me on the way back in but I did not. Good thing was it was not a charter. Will see what happens tomorrow on the paying side.

I redeemed myself today in some very blistery wind. Limit of 15 reds by 11:10 with several losses prior to this. All caught on Mann minus one crankbaits and copper spoons. Easily has gotten to 30 mi S winds around here with some nasty weather coming. Good thing I'll be inside downing beer, eating meatballs and bacon wrapped shrimp at my buddies wedding (or is it funeral) reception here very shortly..

Where I come from, getting skunked is what Oz experiences each tournament -- no fish and no keepers...

Sorry to hear it Bigun but as posted above... you redeemed yourself. :-)

Fished again Sunday with Fred from Shreveport area and Rush from the Marshall area. Never in ten years would I have guessed the wind would go from nearly 20 mph on the ride out there to not blowing at all within a 1/2 hr! The gnats came out which is a true statement as too how fast the wind quit blowing. Reds were not nearly as cooperative but the 2' rise in water from Sat AM did not help gang them up anywhere. But as usual we pecked at the reds and had a limit by 11 am along with 4-5 trout. Most of the reds were caught on brass spoons with the reds almost avoiding the crankbaits finally. I wanted to fish trout a little but the long drive back for them kept us from doing it. I saw several packs of birds in the big ponds I would almost bet was trout that had moved in with the high water. Only two pictures I remembered to take. I should have taken more due to boy were these reds just beautiful gold tinted. As you can see against the grass the water was extremely high. Enjoy. I think Fred's group left happy with sixty redfish caught on the weekend. Until next weekend. :-)

I think your Cajun passport expired Mike! :-) Like I told Drake earlier..."I live here. Just call me when you hit Morgan City!" :-)

Since everything canceled on me this weekend I came close to calling you to see if you were hitting Fork this weekend.

It has been too many years since I went down there. I need to make it happen ASAP...

Sounds like I need to put together a long weekend really soon and come see everyone while they are still there...

Redeemed myself this morning. I had decided last night I did not want to go fishing, but the 5:30 brain alarm clock went off anyway so out the door I went. I stopped at a cut in the marsh I was told had been producing fish all week. A boat was already to one side of the cut. First cast I caught a keeper speck. Second cast I caught a nonkeeper trout. And that was IT! Started talking to the guy in the other boat and he said he had been fishing there all week and I was lied to. He had been catching fish there but no one else had been fishing there during the week. Bummer! Off I went to my second spot and I did not have to leave that spot. Speckle trout were on fire chasing shrimp and mullet all over the place. They were burning the topdog up but were hard to hook. I switched to a Mann's loudmouth jerk bait and it was ON!!!! Man what a pain to fish with though. Three sets of treble hooks and all three sets would be in the fish from the mouth down. Easy limit of fish with a few nice chunkies and LOTS of missed fish. I know I lost two fish over three pounds at the boat. Fish shut off as fast as they started when a storm blew thru and three other boats surrounded me. Forgot the camera. Of course I have already called PQ to rub it all in. Think I'll fry some fish tonight! :-)

Fishing Saturday just plain sucked. Went back to the place I caught fish Friday. The wind went from light SW to breezy straight S winds and ruined that hole. Pretty good rollers and chocolate milk water killed the fishing there. Ran South to the leeward banks of the lake but just no fish to be found except for one small pack under the birds. Do not quite understand why there were no trout due to the bait was absolutely stacked up in sever al tide lines I found. So decided to go redfishing and could not get them to bite either. Finished the day with around 10 trout and three reds. Should have run to the Island's I guess. Woke up this morning to go but my wife gave me this grouchy displeasing gesture like she must not want to watch kids this morning so checking out the websites instead. Marriage and kids are overrated! :-)

Probably a good thing to stay home today. Glad you were able to make it out and catch some fish though. I always enjoy getting those phone calls to rub it in... :-)

Between where this picture was taken and the tornado is where my boat is sitting on a lift. Close call. My boat is about 1/4 mi to the right of that houseboat in the canal. I had just left from down there Friday about 1/2 hr before this thing hit.
