Went fishing yesterday out of freeport and galveston. Had a great time with friends and plenty of heavy action. We first started out in freeport looking for a few ling up close and did manage to land one on my trout rod -- about 18in. That was fun! No big ones though so we tried for bull reds. Good Choice! We did not sit more than 5 minutes between catches. We were catching shark up to 4-5ft and good sized bull reds - mixed bag all day. Too many to count...

We pulled out around 3-4pm. I headed to Galveston solo to try my luck at some trout at the north jetty. Good decision - by the time sun set I had my limit with them all around 18-22in. I did not get a pic because I gave them to a friend at the ramp. All in all a fantastic day!! Wish every day could be like that!!

Thanks Ya'll - It was a blast - I am ready to do it again - sometime this week.

These were not the biggest ones, just the ones we have pics of. Next time maybe I'll take more pics to include the sharks and Ling.

I have been told that when the Reds get about 15 - 25+ pounds that the meat gets full of parasites/worms? Then the guy I was with said not in close to shore like this? Does anyone really know? Are reds this size good table fare?

Dean, they are not usually all the bad to eat. They tend to be a little fishery than smaller fish. You need to really clean that red blood line and layer between the shell and fillet good. My recommendations unless you just need meat to eat is release them though. Just a pain to clean and get stronger the longer you keep them frozen.

Nice!!!, Looks like a blast!!!

Dean, in addition, the larger ones tend to be coarser in texture. Besides that, unless you really need the meat, these are the BREEDERS, let them go to make more.
Love to fish and hunt.
