Connie and I won tickets to the Lone Star Derby so we dropped the kids off at Grandmas and headed to the track.

We were sharing the box seats with another couple from work and the strategies for winning were endless.

Those of you who know me are well aware that I am a numbers kind of guy. It should be no suprise that I wrote down how much we bet on each race and how much we won. On one race I was only able to get off an Exacta-Box bet and not the remainder of my bets before post time and that cost me some earning but more dissapointing was a time that the lady got my "place" & "show" horses mixed up and I missed out on $20 of earnings that race. Of the 11 races we bet on, 2 of them we did not collect something back. I need to go a few more times and refine my betting for higher payouts... :-)

Here's me and the better half:

Some random pics of the races:

All said and done, we bet $86.00 out of the 11 races and won $79 & some change. Pretty cheap entertainment until you factor in the $4.50/beer and $4.00 for a sausage on a bun... Still a great time spent with my wife and I look forward to going back again.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

BTW, PQ you really are a tight arse complaining about a $4.50 hotdog after getting free tickets and after I thought about the cost of my past weekend. I'm only down about $300 minimum on my weekend expeditions plus I cracked a hatch on my boat when I trimmed my motor up on top of it since it blew open on the rough ride out to the Island and cracked a BRAND new spinning rod somehow (hopefully Academy will take it back). I really need to find "friends" who will pay for gas when they go fishing I guess. Good luck with that is my experience. But I did come out in the positive I guess considering my charter Saturday. :-)

If I thought it was Connie I had to talk to, I would talk to her. But since I know you, I know where the squeak comes from! :-)

Hatch was just due to inattentiveness and slow reflexes. I heard the trim kind of bog down and I looked back and before I could get my finger off the switch there was an explosion. Gerald heard it in his boat about 50 yds away!!! Best part Caroline tells me "I could have told you you were going to break it if you would have asked me"! KIDS!!! :-)

Rod I have no clue how it broke. It was sitting in my rod holder broken. Never has been used.

A day at the track is always fun. A few days at the track and you wind up broke. Looks like you had a good time.
