Okay, planning a trip to Cancun in March (during Spring Break to be exact :-O). We'll be staying at a resort on the south shore.

Does anybody have any experience/suggestions on outfitters/captains/charters for a deep-sea day trip?

Any estimates on total cost (everything, including tips, etc.)?

Cancun on spring break, Why would you leave the beach?

I'm headed to Cabo in August and it looks like the deep sea fishing is out of my price range. I am looking at renting a small boat to fish around the point close to the resort.

Sorry, no help here.

I know you can go on group charters for a fairly reasonable price. Like a $100 a head if I remember right. You set it all up thru the conciere desk. We showed up and the weather was a little nasty and none of the other couples showed up so we went out and had the whole boat to ourselves last time I was there. Me and the wife had a blast catching groupers and barracuda's and unfortunately no bill fish showed up.
Quit being a mad, little bald man!

Got married in Cancun 2 years ago.

Wifey, myself and both Dads fished for Bonefish in Bahia De La Ascencion and left outta Punta Allen, an hour south of Cancun.
All day trip, 4 of us, 2 boats and 2 guides and it was $800.
Caught some nice fish.

We stayed at the Xpu-Ha eco-resort http://www.xpuha-palace.com/ and chartered through the hotel.
If memory serves, the deep sea stuff was about the same price.

The Moon Palace is part of the same chain as Xpu-Ha, meaning you and your family have free access to this resort as well.
Xpu-Ha has a freshwater estuary in the middle of it with a private dock (the pic of the kayaks in the upper right side of the link, is the estuary).
My best man and I both hooked and lost Tarpon off that dock. Obviously, you're kinda not supposed to fish there. :-)
We closed down one of the beachside bars and about 2 am we hit the dock of the estuary and fished topwater bass plugs, it was sweet.
Pitch black, water like glass and were giggling at the sound of Pop-R's chugging, huge explosions, Tarpon smoking our bass gear, like I said, it was sweet...
All the fishing pics are on a disc at home, I'll try to post some later.
If you get the chance, I'm giving you jewels here, Rudey.
One more tidbit, Tarpon have mouths hard as rocks, you gotta really set that hook. :-)
Have fun and hope this helps.
