Folks, Business has been quite slow lately and I have been job hunting. I may have found what could be a great job for me working with a company called Foxconn. Please pray that God will have His will whether I get this job or not.

The Job title is (for what a title is worth) Global Quality Manager for HP Servers. I know the guy I would be working with and have been friends with him for several years. He too is a fishing nut.

I think my qualifications are good and the possibility that I might get the job is very good. (I sure will miss all of the fishing though)

Well Ya'll - I went on my first interview that I can remember for my whole life and found myself interviewing them... Apparently I am over-qualified for the job - but - they told me the job is mine if I want it.

Now for the twist -

I believe in God and I believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior. I believe that all things are for a reason and only God knows his ultimate plan for each of us.

The guy who told me about the job and who I would be working for (partly) is not a christian - single - his job is his wife.

To summarize what I understand about the job:
5-6 days per week
8-10hr per day then 3-4 con-cals at 8pm every week - typically 1.5 to 2hr.
quarterly travel to China for 2-3 weeks each
occasional travel to checkoslovocia (2-3 weeks)
occasional travel to Juarez (2-3 weeks)
occasional travel to different sites through the US (time as needed - 2 days to 2-3 weeks)
The company has a "bamboo ceiling". When I asked what this means I was told that only Tiwanese get the exectutive jobs.
When I asked where does my next level of position go I was told that there are no positions here. One of the interviewers told me that they have not seen salary increases for 4 years - get what I want up front because it wont change.
There is no "ladder" to climb in the company.

There is a lot more but I don't want to write all day... What do ya'll think about that? The interviewers were not happy working for the company. They had very little good to say about the company????....

On the other hand - Suddenly I was awarded 2 projects from one of the HP supliers and HP is talking about another possible project. These 2 and another deal I have will sustain my living and business expenses for a few months once we complete them (2 more weeks). I have 7 people working on them..

After that - who knows.

Please pray for God to give me the wisdom to know his will in my situation. Today I will meet with one of the elders of our church to talk about it. He is also a member of the "Silver Foxes" - a group of retired men who advise business owners for minimal fees - I do mean Minimal.

It seems to me like this job has all of the "Family Pit Falls" I have heard about that cause divorce and family stability issues.?. Long Days, Lots of Travel, Little time to focus on "home" and "Family".

What do ya think?

Sounds like the Company you interviewed with will work you to death, no free time and no hope for raise or promotion. Too many red flags and to see those that interview not happy, there are better things out there.

Stay with your deal now and keep looking elsewhere. Traveling all the time, late night meetings every evening means your still working at 8-9 pm every night. Not worth the hassle at all.

Bamboo ceiling LOL! That says alot right there. An Asian good old boy network in full swing. I would run from this one Dean.

I would agree with Rob on this one -- stay out of it. If you qualified for that job then you will qualify for another one later down the road. Walk away from it feeling good about yourself and put your focus back into your business.

Lot of travel is neat when you are young and single but absolutely sucks when married with kids -- at least for me. There were too many red flags on that campus for me to invest my life into it.

I think God already gave you the signs you needed, it us up to you to see them!
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Dean,

Quality of life is much more important than the all mighty dollar. If was require to put that many hours into work I sure as heck wouldn't do it for an employer.

Any chance of doing double time in generating new clients during those couple of months?

Good luck to ya and I'll keep you in my prayers.

Thanks ya'll.

Ya'll reinforce my feelings. My meeting with the Elder from the church reflected the same type of response as you all. I have gone over the interview in my head over and over and can not remember any positive aspects of the interview.

2 weeks vacation - maybe more after who knows how long.

When I asked about personal days - up to 7 with doctors note.

Yea, family is indeed more important.

The elder said - we would be happier living in a tent eating beans as long as we have each other and this job would likely keep us apart more than we know and the effects could be devistating for each of us - especially the chilren.

We pray that God can use the business He has entrusted to me to glorify Him - as a tool for spreading the Gospel - as a living testiment of His power and love and grace.

I ask that you pray for God to bless this business to edify Him and give me the wisdom to see His will and stay His course. Keep satin OUT OF IT!

Thanks for your prayers. I truly feel as though God was in the interview. The things I heard are not expected to hear in an interview. I'll bet these people are wondering "why did I say these things?:-("

Thanks to the Lord for all He does for us - no matter how big or small.

Ya'll, Thanks for your prayers. The Lord has blessed the business with work and opportunity.

Yesterday I had 14 people working! :-) While the margins are not as they used to be at least we are profitable. Tomorrow we will have 8.

I discovered a "Between Jobs Ministry" with the church. It is a ministry to help people find jobs who are new to the area or laid off or what ever the cause might be. I have been able to recruit people from this ministry for temporary work/jobs. Temporary work is what we have.

I think it is neat how the Lord has put it all together. He showed me work and workers and has blessed the business with some really competent leaders to help it along in successfully executing the rework demands of HP and HP suppliers.

Thanks again and thanks to God for his wisdom.

Excellent news!

It's a difficult balancing act being self employed. One day your scratching your head wondering how your going to complete the work and they next day your scratching your head wondering what your going to do.
