Who has what type of scales and culling systems? I have the X-Tools and I think it stinks. The culling clips always fall off the fish and the scales have misread before and I've lost which fish # I'm to cull out. I've got the old Berkley handheld with the circle at the top with a hook at the end that works pretty good I guess. I just ordered the "Cul M Rite" system (which is expensive) I've heard it's the best out there. I just wanted some input from some of you folks...

I bought some culling clips but fear that I will never need them. I'm so use to not needing them, I just tossed my fish in the livewell at the tournament on Richland the other weekend and never brought out the clips or wax board.

Two different winning teams I interviewed during the BassChamps stuff were using the X-tools scale and swore by it. Within a 1/2 pound every tournament is what they told me. I bought one but have not used it for fish. I know it was way off on the 15 pound anchor but really close to the 10 lb gym weight (both compared to my Berkley scale).
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Oz, we use the Cull-m-Rite clips but not the scales. Too much $$$. We made a culling scale from an old golden rule measuring board.

I like the clips if for no other reason than not having to chase those little swimmers around the live-well.

Good luck with the system and keep us updated.

I've got the new clips comming that are too darn expensive but we'll see how they fair. If I don't have to punch a hole in the fish I feel thats better for the fish. Michele hates it when I do that to the poor little fishy...

So it's alright to stick one with a hook but not o.k. to clip one:-)

Here's the thinking the hook heals the clip hook hole doesn't. If you really want to know it's she not OK with hooking them either but is hard to catch one without it. If she thinks about it too much she stops fishing so we don't talk about those things anymore. Just like hunting...

If it's square it's fish, if its round its burger ;)

Dru,

Any chance of posting a picture of your home made culling system?

Charles, it's in my partner's boat. Basically we took a golden rule measuring board and cut the end off(the end where the head of the fish is placed).

Drill a hole on the cut-off end and one exactly in the middle. (there is already a hole on the other end) We used the clips from a metal stringer to hold the fish and a piece of small rope for a hand hold in the middle.

We are going to Texoma next weekend and I will take a picture of it then.

Oz, I may be over stating this system. We use the Cull-M-Rite clips and the modified golden rule as a balance beam or scale to cull the smallest fish.

It's just a home brew balance beam.
