What's everybody doing for the 4th?

I picked my boat up from the shop, so I'll spend some time on Fork or Ray Hubbard this weekend. Tuesday plan on BBQ'ing and watch fireworks.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun filled holiday.

Same to you Charles. Not much on plans except the usual 4th stuff.

I will probably spend some time shooting my long neglected bows somewhere this weekend for a little tune up.

Spent Saturday & Sunday on Lake Travis. Having to work most of the day Monday, then back to the lake until it gets dark. Back on the Tuesday all day. Downing cold ones the whole time. Everyone have a good 4th and be safe. Lakes are crazy on holiday weekends. They already had a girl drown yesterday evening at Lake Travis in Devils Cove.

Wish the rain would go away and it would dry up - At least the fire factor will be low for the fourth!

Our kids are looking forward to fireworks tonight :-)

We went to the horse track yesterday for some racing and fireworks. They also had a ton of kids stuff going on with bounce houses, games, rock climbing, face painting, etc... Then they had a spectacular fireworks display after the races. It was the kids first experience at the horse track and they had a great time.

Tonight we will attend a 4th of July party that is put on by the family of our sitter. They run a fireworks stand and put on this annual party with brisket, ribs, cakes, cookies, and all kinds of goodies. I helped a few years back with the fireworks show and will do so again if needed. Else, I will bring the camera and see if I can get some decent pictures.

We have the threat of rain looming here and honestly I hope if happens because we are DRY!

I'd say that's pretty dialed in there Rob... Nice shootin Tex! :-)

We went to the 4th of July party at the sitter's place and again this year I got to be a shooter... :-) It all starts with a water trough full of kid (kinda) friendly fireworks for the younguns to play with during the daylight hours while the adults eat and socialize. As the sun begins to fade the big flatbed truck loaded with the big bombs makes it out to the trailer where the show will take place. When the assembly of shooters are gathered the cigars and safety glasses are handed out and preparations are complete for a 45 minute show for the crowd. The last count I heard was 175 people had gathered to eat and watch the show.

We line the tubes up on the flatbed trailer while other members of the group align the ground effects. The show is kicked off with a 500 count string of black cats and we get busy loading tubes and a constant barage of colorful explosions begins. We had 6 people loading tubes and there was rarely a lapse of more than a couple seconds between explosions and most of the time 3 or 4 going off at the same time.

I remembered my ear plugs this time and it was by far the smartest thing I have done in the last couple weeks... When those monsters launch out of the tubes it makes some serious concussions and being mere feet away from one as it launches will certianly ring your bell. With the ear plugs it was very comfortable and the only issue was the embers falling from the launches and expplosions above.

When it was all said and done, the crowd cheered and the crew tilted a beer in celebration of completion. Then we made our way into the crowd to ask how it looked because none of us had time to watch the show. As soon as you tube launched, you loaded another shell and lit the fuse. When that box was empty you grabbed another box and did it again until they were all gone.

Where else can a man smoke cigars, shoot off over $1000 worth of fireworks, and drink cold beer -- for free!!!

I'm glad that our kids go to their house for sitting and we are able to participate in the event. I had the camera to capture the scene but once I was marked for duty I put the camera away for the night -- sorry...

Exactly why we celebrate the 4th.

I spent the 4th up in Oklahoma at my inlaws. We tried to shoot some fireworks before the storms arrived but on my 2nd item I caught the neighbors pasture on fire so I decided to stop. Unfortunately the rain hadn't hit up there and the grass was still a little dry. I was able to put it out quickly with some fancy footwork. Thankfully no one had a camera for that fire dance.

Decided to just let the kids do some small stuff and then retreated to the house when the storms hit. I've still got a few items that need launching. My neighbors are going to love me this weekend.
