A co-worker and his dad are planning a trip to Mexico in November. Does anyone have any suggestions on which lake and/or guide service?

They are looking for numbers vs. size.

Thanks for the help

Wish I could help. My understanding is Bacarrac is a numbers lake more than a size lake but still a chance at some hogs.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Tell them not to go. They will be spoiled and will not want to fish any of the mud puddles back home.

I've been to El Salto and Guerro. El Salto by far was the best. I stayed at www.anglersinn.com . My partner and I boated close to 300 fish in 21/2 days of fishing. Ranged in size from 3lber's to just shy of 10lbs.

I'm going back to El Salto in October. I'm staying at a different lodge (www.mexicobassonline.com) because it's considerably less money.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Charles. Have you heard anything about the second place?

I hope you have fun in October.

We are headed to Amistad in the middle of October.

The only thing I know of the second place is:

I passed it to get to Anglers Inn. It's not on the shorline, they drive you to and from the lake each day (5 minute trip) which isn't that big of a deal because Anglers Inn hauls you to the lake with an ATV and trailer. Either way your waiting to catch a ride.

Anglers Inn is very nice and I had a blast but I'm saving several Ben Franklins staying at the other lodge.

Thanks Charles.

A couple more ?'s
What did you tip your guide?
Did you haul your own tackle down and how difficult was that?

Thanks

I tipped my guide very well ($200.00) plus bags and bags of soft plastics. I think the general rule is $25.00-$35.00 a day for the guide and $25.00 a day for wait staff, cooks and house keeping. If the lodge ask to give tips to them I will pay the minimum than tip my guide of favorite staff person on the side. The reason for this is the lodge will take a percentage of the staffs tip which is no bueno to me.

I did haul my tackle down. Most lodges will have a limited supplies of tackle that is marked up hundreds of percent. They will also provide you with rods and reels for a fee. The equipment they had didn't look that great. I put all of my rods in a rod tube and tackle in a Falcon soft sided bag. My digital camera and reels I carried on in a back pack. I did get charge for an oversized piece of luggage for my rod tube once.

Like I said I've been twice and going back for a third time in October. I have done the math many times on what it cost me to own a boat compared to how many times a year I could go to Mexico. I just might be selling my boat next spring:-)

Their is no comparison to fishing in Mexico and here.

Ozz,

I bought my tickets for October a few months ago for $408.00 plus taxes. Total came to $505.00. Plus you need to budget for an oversized piece of lugauge, the last time it was a hundred bucks. Rates will change with the market. I fly out of DFW to Houston, hop on a plane in Houston for a direct flight to Mazatlan Mexico. Pretty easy flight.
