One of my buddies from Houston called me last week and said that he was coming to town and wanted to hit Fork. I obtained a kitchen pass from the warden for the entire weekend.

Saturday 7/15/06 Picked Craig up in Garland at 4:00am and headed to fork. We launched at the 515 west public ramp just as daylight was breaking. I made a quick run to the other side of the bridge and started to work a scum frog over some matted hydrilla. We only managed one top water fish. We than went a short distance to an under water bridge that normally produces for me this time of year but was unable to graph any fish so we went to my next spot. We ran south of the 515 bridge and started to work a main lake point/ridge and proceeded to wear them out. In a matter of a couple of hours we boated around a dozen and a half LMB ranging from 3lbs to 5lbs. We also watch another boat not to far from us spanking them and catch a 9lber. After that bite slowed down I started my run and gunning to main lake points flipping the tree tops with grande sized worms. We broke off a couple of fish doing this but were unable to boat any. Around 11:30 we decided to grab a bite to eat and get out of the heat. After lunch we had to make a quick trip to towakani to replenish our cooler (I forgot to put my case of beer in the truck at 3:00am). After that we went to my favorite lodging facility and took a well needed nap. Being the determined anlgers that we are we were back on the lake a 5:30pm (still way to hot) and fished till dark. We only managed one fish on our evening outing but it was a solid 5lber.

Sunday 7/16/06 Back on the lake bright and early. We decided not to even try for top water and went to our hole that we had much success with the previous morning. It wasn't as good as Saturday as we only managed a few fish. After two hours on struggling to catch fish off this spot we started to hit other deep holes. The normal stuff like humps, ridges and under water bridges. Didn't have much luck so we decided to call it quits so Craig could get back to Dallas to meet up with his wife and kids for the long drive back to Houston.

If I had to make a guess I'd say it's about the same. I'm not out there enough to really tell the difference. I spoke with some guy that lives out there and he said it's about 3' low if that helps.

7/21/06: Put in around 6:30 pm and headed to a deep spot. Marked bait and fish but could only catch two. Started to get dark and head to a tree line close to the ramp. Started to work TX rigged Ol Monster worms along tree line with no takers. Bugs started to get bad so we loaded up and went to the lodge to cook some ribeyes.

7/22/06: Hit the water and headed the the mouth of little Caney in hopes of some top water along the lilly pads. Nothing on top water so we started to throw TX Rig worms along an extended point with timber. Caught two babies. Worked a few more main lake points with no takers. Dedecided to check a point/creek channel in little mustang. Well it pays off to be in the right place at the right time. As I was unhooking a nice 4lber the schooling action began. My partner and I caught nine real quick and lost six. All the schooling fish were in the three to five pound range. After the schooling action ended I headed to the deep ridge that I had caught all of the fish the weekend before with out any success. I strated to et hot so we came home.

I'm hoping to be back again next Saturday (if the warden will let me) and will report back.

Good job being in the right spot at the right time Charles. Sounds like ya'll had a good trip. I sure gave a lot of thought to going fishing after church today. But, instead I was a couch captain and just sat around all day recouping from yesterday. We watched a movie, ate popcorn, had a few cold beers... :-)
