After typing what I thought was going to be my last report for the coastal trip this year we all headed to the water for one last day of playing in the surf which was very flat and the green water was moving closer and closer to the shore.

After about a half hour of playing in the water with the kids and family, Connie told me to go get my fishing pole. I had been wanting to try this all week so I caught some mullet with the cast net and cut them up into chunks. Put a chunk on a treble hook and cast out into the surf to see what was out there. In no time at all I had a little gaftop catfish. Another cast and I had a bigger gaftop, and bigger, and bigger. I caught 6 gaftop really quick with the largest around 3 pounds -- all released after the kids got to pet them.

The mullet were thick in the surf and as the green water approached us out on the sandbar I teased everyone standing around me about what might be hanging out just on the edge of that green water... :-) It was my wife & kids, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and his wife & kids all standing out in waist deep water on the sand bar when I set the hook and the drag started singing to me. This fish started heading straight for the shoreline and I had to have my MIL clear so the braided line did not get her. As the fish got about 20 feet from us it surfaced and revealed that it was a small shark. You should have seen the water clear... :-) It was not a monster shark, but this 3' pup ate the wrong piece of mullet because we did not know what we were doing for dinner until that little guy got on the line...

shark,
mike_shark,

I took the shark up to the beach house and cleaned him and got him soaking in milk immediately -- thanks for the tips on the phone Dean.

After I had the shark taken care of Connie and I waded out to fish some more where I would cast and she would work the rod. She caught a bunch of catfish and one whiting that we kept for dinner.

connie_fish,

We cooked up the shark & whiting and it was delicious. We wrapped up our last night at the beach house with some great wine and great food. It is a shame that it is over but here are some of the last pics from last night and what we woke up to this morning.

Some great looking stuff there Mike. Too bad the fishing wasn't better this week but sounds like you still had a great time with the family.
Love to fish and hunt.

It figures that the green water would move up to the beach the day we left. Oh well, there is always next year...

We had another great vacation. I spent a whole lot more time with the family this year because the fishing sucked but... It's all good... :-)

Thanks everyone!
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

So they say - I called yesterday and they told me they ordered a new one. I asked if it is NEW or Rebuilt - They said they ordered a new one. Kinda felt the cold shoulder .. No ETA available yet. I guess I might be with-out for the rest of the season - I really do not think I will buy a Mako from them.. I am afraid of the after the sale issues I might face..

All I've heard about Travis Marine around here is nightmares also Dean. I would not buy a pirogue from them I don't think! :-) Good luck with the boat. I've never seen anything so cursed.

Cursed - Good Description!

I have had others say Cursed, Ginxed, Bad Luck Charm, ???

So, regular issues is not common for boats? You mean - everyone does not go through these trials with their boats? seriously. I can not imagine that everyone does not have at least half of the issues I have? I have been told by friends that I need to get rid of the risk before something really bad happens..

So Far - New Hull, New Power Head, New Lower Unit, What is left? New Operator :-)

Of course, now that everything is new - there should be no more problems.......

What a way to wrap up your vacation. Nothing like dragging a shark through some unsuspecting swimmers. Looks like you and the family had a great time.

Thanks for taking us along.
