BIG FISH...BIG FISH..."Dennis, get the net" That's what I was saying to my partner this Saturday. An old friend of mine Dennis Curtis came out this weekend to fish Fork Saturday and Sunday. Saturday morning we started right at daylight but we just weren't hooking up with any top water fish, Dennis had one nice chunky 14” bass. With things not looking so good we headed to the south end of the lake looking for some deeper water points and ridges.

It was close to 9:00am and we pulled up to an area with a steep drop off into 18ft of water close to the bank with stick ups. I started casting parallel to the shore along the drop with a crank bait (PQ keep your mouth shut) all of a sudden the bait just stopped…I pulled back on the rod to make sure I wasn’t hooked on a stump and the rod loaded up so I set the hook and the FORKNESS MONSTER jumped completely out of the water 15ft in front of us!!

WOW, get the net Dennis this is a monster bass!! She came up again and WOW what a fish I tell you, what A fish…Here I am about to catch one of those big lake FORK BASS finally. Well…. about the time Dennis was reaching for the net, which was in the box by the way, the fish makes a run at the boat and a little stump in front she went around and pulled off, just like that she was gone. I could believe she came off so easily. We looked at each other and just started shaking our heads how in the world do these fish do that? I swear they have little fingers that can undo a hook!! That was a huge fish, I mean well over 10lbs best we could guess. Then not 5 minutes later in the same spot I hooked up again and this fish we boated. It was a good one she measured 22” long. I held her up and Dennis said that fish is half the size of what you just lost and I agreed it was close to being twice as big. We both got a great look at the fish when she jumped.

This area I was fishing two years ago produced a 9lber in August for me. It has also produced a few 8’s in the past so I missed my shot but I’ll be back looking for that fish again one day that’s for sure.

I'm still trying to figure out which part I am supposed to keep my mouth shut about -- the spot, the crankbait, the casting || to the bank... :-)

Bummer on loosing the fish Oz, but awesome that you had her on. You do know that lake well and maybe we can fish it again some day -- minus the breakfast...
