As many of you know, Wes and I had the good fortune to spend last Thursday through Sunday with Wade "Bigun" Henry for some good times down in the south LA marsh. For those of you who have not had the good fortune to meet Wade, you are really missing out. He's the kind of guy that befriends anyone and everyone, and makes you feel at home, regardless if he's known you ten minutes or ten years.

Wes and I rolled East out of Austin on Thursday morning and spent the better part of the day traveling at light speed down I-10. Wes's girlfriend purchased him a top secret radar detector that even the FBI does not know about that allowed us to make the trip in a time that may qualify us for the Indy 500! At any rate, the brief time that we did spend on the highway went even faster as we talked about past hunts and fishing trips, and lauged our arses off at some of the times we've shared and others that we have not. The trip there and back was almost as fun as the time we spent there.

We arrived in Houma in the early evening and started to plan the events for trip. That evening, I had the good fortune to meet Wade's lovely wife, Denise, and his kiddos. They made the trip even more enjoyable.

That evening, Wade and Denise treated us to a fine dinner and some good times a the local Mexican joint. To make a long story short, we had plenty of drinks, and I felt a little tired the next day as we zipped through the marsh in search of our quarry.

We hit the ramp early in the AM.

Shortly therafter, Wade was guiding us through the wild marsh.

That morning we managed to catch only one red and one trout. We decided to go catch some blue crabs for dinner and come up with a new game plan for the afternoon bite. Wes is a master at the game, and truly acted like this was not his first time to catch crabs . . . go figure.

This is my first Boone and Crockett crab.

The afternoon passed quickly as we drank a few coldies and laid out our plan of attack.

We decided to fish a few spots that Wade knew to hold fish, but it was pretty slow until the final hour of the day, when all Hades broke loose. As is the norm in South LA, and afternoon thunder shower popped up. In short, the fish turned on in a big way. We managed to put three limits of reds in the boat in about an hour and a half.

The next morning, fishing was once again awesome! We decided to hit a spot we had seen a few packs of reds scatter the previous morning on our way out into the marsh. From the first cast we had almost non-stop action. We managed to put three limits in the boat by 8 AM!!

We headed back home and decided to boil up the crabs for lunch. Those of you that know Wade, now that the man can cook like it's going out of style. Well, let me tell you this . . . . crabs could be his specialty.

After lunch, we grabbed a quick nap and spent some time talking with Wades's in-laws who are equally gracious as Wade. Stephanie, Wades sister-in-law set a new record female consumption of boiled crabs!

We headed back to the marsh that evening, but fishing was slow, as we only managed to put four keepers in the boat, releasing several throw backs.

We loaded up Sunday morning and headed back to the ATX, unscathed once again by Johnnie Law.

Wade, muchas gracias for the hospitality again amigo. Wes and I look forward to many more trips with the "Gu of Du"

It was a blast as always Simek and Wes. I really enjoyed the company and we have plenty to talk about at Wes' in October no doubt. Wes apparently taught my boy a few new tricks due to I got a note today that he is suddenly hitting all the kids. Must think they are all Czexican's. LMAO!!! It definitely took a while for Simek to recover from his jetlag from his warp speed trip here. He forgot to mention I kicked their butt fishing Friday afternoon! I was wondering if I was going to get any help for a while. Until next time Gentlemen. And Simek, Remember "set the *#!@'in hook!"

Ya'll Suck!!!
Congrats on a great trip to bayou country with undoubtedly the best host around. I'm ashamed that Wes has seen more of my family in the last 2 years than I have.

Great job on the pics Simek and great job on the fishing guys...

Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I must admit that I rather enjoyed the constant harrassment of Picou upon which Wes seemed to thrive!

I let Simek use it all weekend. I'll let him give you the review of the Record Rob.

How come Little Big'un in Simek's arms looks like his dad at the end of the night on the porch in Seguin? It must be that Simek influence!

Yes,I have to admit I was quite amused with Wes constant harrassment and trying everything in his might to piss PQ off and I would have to imagine he succeeded at some point.

Rob, if you're talking about the Abu, the thing worked like a charm - as long as you did not cast into the wind. I could chunk the spoon for miles!

Thanks again Wade for a great weekend. Enjoyed seeing the family again also. Wade is the man at catching reds, he schooled me on friday (of course I think I had a defective spoon :-) ) LOT'S of beer was consumed on this trip, especially thursday night and all day saturday. Saturday night, Me, Denise and Mark (wade's BIL) around 11pm decided to head to the casino and do some gambling. We get there and they head straight to the craps table and I to the poker room. 1st game I could get into was the 5-5 no limit game (min buy $100 max $300). I buy in for $160 the game doesn't last long because they break my table up to feed other tables and send me back to the waiting list. I only got to play about 8 hands. I ended up ~160. I decided not to wait for another seat and headed back to the craps table. I buy in there and quickly run my $20 up to about 100 or so. Just as quickly I end up losing it all. We decide to call it a night and head home. I end up about 140 or so up for the night, Denise and Mark were not as fortunate :-).

Simek, enjoyed the trip, looking forward to the next one. Wade, I left my phone charger in your kitchen can you bring it in Oct when you come down for the doe hunt?

I assume that ya'll are referring to the endless banter delivered by Wes on my voice mail... Have ya'll not learned that I have grown numb to this type of harrassment from him. I got the first voice mail and laughed while explaining it to all those around me. From then out it was simply expected. :-)

Of course, I also recall some of the conversations between Wes and I that had Wade and Simek in the background spewing derogatory statements so do not play innocent and try to blame it all on Wes you low lifes... lol... :-) :-)

Man you guys know how to have fun. It's good to see having a camera in the boat doesn't hurt the fishing. Just something to keep in mind later on Wade.

Awesome pics, thanks for sharing.

I hear ya' Dru. I have not even been posting fishing trips lately due to I just don't take any pixels. Ain't right reporting on trips without pixels. Had three trips this weekend. Struggled a little but always wound up with around ten reds each trip. We whacked them out quick Sat afternoon and would have been quicker if not for the 8-9 missed reds. Missing fish was the story of the weekend some reason with them just nibbling on the spoons. Also some reason the other boat did a lot better using black rex spoons which is a new one on me due to I've never had any luck with black spoons. Quess it was the light tide??? Not sure.

I don't have anything going on for once this year this weekend. At least yet. Don't tell anyone but I may actually not even fish this weekend! :-)

I was actually just reading on TBH that they were going to have a happy hour in Seguin Saturday and was thinking about going stay at Wes' mom's house!
