I could not hunt this morning because of Connie's condition but I took off early and picked up the kids from school and went home. Grabbed some shells and changed clothes then headed out. Corey went with me this afternoon and Jessica stayed with Connie.

Corey and I got out to the TPWD Public Dove area and there was nothing flying anywhere. We decided to walk some and see if we could find some birds -- we did... :-) The bad part was that I only grabbed 1 box of shells because of the lack of birds flying.

We saw a couple hundred birds enough for a limit came within shooting range. I ended up with 14 dove for the afternoon and no shells left over. We were at 11 birds and I only had 6 shells left. I made it to 13 birds with 3 shells left and spent 2 shells on a single that I missed and made the last shot count giving the grand total of 14 for the evening. It was only 7:00pm and there were tons of birds still flying all over. Corey and I had a great time together and talked about all kinds of things between birds. She is usually the quiet one but was chatty Cathy the whole walk back and drive home. She had to tell her mom all about it and show off her bloody hands and jeans... :-)

I hope nobody goes over there in the morning because I doubt that I am going to wake up early enough to make it. I would like to take both girls out tomorrow afternoon.

Corey made a great bird dog even though she missed the first three. Once I told her to watch it hit the ground and not take her eyes off it she did great. :-) She did switch on me once but we still got all the birds... lol...

I am looking real forward to grilled dove on Sunday evening for dinner -- yummy!!!
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I'm still waiting for a trip like that. I probably still wouldn't get a limit no matter how many shells I have.

I didn't get to go today due to work but I hope to later this weekend. It sounded like a war zone this morning around my house. Dove were flying all over a corn field by my house. Sure made it hard to sleep and come back to work tonight. I'm hoping they will still be there this weekend.

I took Jessica out to the same spot on Saturday evening and the shooting was not as great. I ended up with 9 birds in the bag. I missed 6 or 7 birds so there were enough there for a limit just my shooting was off. I got tail feathers on 2 other birds and they fluttered over and landed in the trees. Never found them on the ground when we went to check so they must have either took off running or flew away when I was not looking.

We grilled up half of the birds on Sunday evening and it was delicious... Glad that Connie is eating small portions these days because I was able to stretch those 23 birds out into two meals. Usually Connie and I both eat 5 or 6 birds each and then the kids have 2 or 3 each. I just made some extra side dishes and we all ate fewer birds than usual. A great meal none the less.

Good shooting PQ. Now if you could just quit injuring the furry animals you would have a full freezer. :-)

I ended up with 15 birds saturday evening. Four of them were white wings which is a first for me. Had chicken fried dove for lunch Sunday afternoon and went back out that evening and shot 11 more. Went back out last night for an hour before dark and managed 5. It's nice having a corn field within walking distance that is covered in birds.

I have not thrown lead at a dove bird in years. Thanks for sharing and bringing back good memories.

Congrats on the kills and goods eats.
