We moved into our subdivision 3 years ago this November. Ever since we moved in, there have been promises of them finishing the 15 acre lake at the end of our street "this summer". Well, this summer is the summer they finally got it done it looks like. Last week I logged on to the community discussion board to a thread saying they had begun filling the lake. For months now I had been planning on making it down there with my GPS to mark all the spots that I thought would hold fish. I thought I still had time, since initially they had planned for it to take 4 months to fill. Well, now once they started the water district says it will be done by the end of the month! I managed to sneak away yesterday and get everything marked. Here are some pics of it that I pulled off the community website that someone took.

In the second picture you can see white things on the far bank. Those are sections of PVC pipe about 4 foot tall with arms to make big crosses. There are big groups of them of about 10 or so. Total I think there are 14 or 15 of these along the front part of the lake. I can't remember how many rock piles, and rip rap piles that you can't see because of the brush grown up in the bottom of the lake. I marked them all though!

In the second picture on left you can see one of the two brick piles. Both of these look to be about 3 or 4 feet under where the water line will be and form a shallow ledge then drop almost straight off to the bottom of the lake. the other second one is to the right of the one you see in the picture.

To the right of the gate where the water is flowing in there is another ledge that will be deeper, maybe 5 to 8 feet deep that has concrete piles at the edge before it drops off to deeper water.

I think I've got everything mapped out that I can use to fish it in the fture. It looks like it will be fun once things are filled, stocked, and going. Eventually, this is supposed to be maintained at a 30' depth in the center, stocked with bass, and will be open for boats with no gas motors. They've already got the boat ramp poured, as well as the dock, which where it looks like the first picture was taken from. It is supposed to have been designed by Bill Dance and there was word of him being at the ceremony they will have to officially open up the lake. We will see. Maybe that's another 3 years down the road. I'm just pumped to see it flling up after all this waiting.

If yall see anything I need to mark in the pictures or have any suggestions let me know. I might have time to get back down there. When I went yesterday, the water was up to the lowest PVC cross set ups just to give you an idea of where the water is now. These pics were taken earlier in the week. I think I just made it to get everything that I could use mapped.

That's nice Justin. Be sure and get you some reference points on the bank so you can make the right casts.

Charles, with water. :-)

I think they are pulling water out of Lewisville. On the other side of the brush line in the second picture is a finger of Lewisville that comes up behind the lake. It all has something to do with the water treatment plant (not sewage thankfully!) they built behind the subdivision. I haven't been able to keep up with all the details over the years. I know there were alot of people upset that this hasn't been done sooner.

None of this was in the works , or at least nothing was said about it when we bought the house. Luckily, I pushed Lisa to buy a lot on the inside of the property on the 4 acre lake instead of the outside edge where she wanted to buy. Some of those people that bought back there aren't too happy about it now.

I did that as well Dru. Just about everyplace there was something to mark they also put a big boulder on the edge of the lake. Not for every one of them, but alot of them. There are a few that don't have anything marking them at all. I really think that the PVC crosses are going to be a little far out there to really fish well from the bank. Hopefully by the that time I will have gotten my hands on a small bass boat to throw out there.

Too funny Dru! I guess I should have been more specific for the "yankees" in the group:-)

The reason I asked, is that all of our lakes around here are low due to an extreme drought. When Justin (Hi Justin) said they are fillin a new lake I thiught it was odd they could do that but I can't water my lawn. Anywho, enough about me trying to save the environment:-)

Charles, my lake is much more important than your yard! I'm saving your back having to mow it! :-)

Like I said, initially they said it would take several months (4-6 if I remember right) to fill it. We did get enough rain to bring both the other lakes up to where they drained ino the overflows. Maybe they figured they should go ahead and fill it while we had the rain?

We need to hook up for lunch sometime since I can't ever make the Big Buck gatherings.

I haven't been doing the BBB gigs either. Holler when you want to do lunch. Have you been to Scoots over by Bone Daddys?

Yeah, I took Lisa in there just the other day. First time I had been there since I went just after they opened, I had no idea they wore bikini's in that place. Let me see what's going on and we may shoot for next week sometime.

That is going to be a great place to get your line stretched Justin... I look forward to seeing the pics of the full pool and the soon to be produced fish pictures.

I would love to have one like that in my back yard. Hopefully some of that storm that rolled thru today added to the level.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Yessir! The lake off the backyard is as full as I have seen it in a while. I have been over to the big lake a couple of times, but have yet to take the camera. Last night Bryce actually wanted to run down the street to the big lake, so we literally jogged down the street to take a peek. I noticed it looked like it was up the brim. Here are a couple pics they posted on the community board...

My in laws were taking the kids for a walk on the walking trail that goes around it and ran into a guy fishing in it already. He claims to have seen them stocking it. My father in law says he even caught a few small bass while they were standing there talking to him. Couple more years and it will be pretty sweet.

The small lake behind the house has some really nice fish in it now. I was out there a few weeks ago and managed to pull 4 or 5 out with a black buzzbait in the evening just before dark. I probably missed at least that many. Seems like they wanted it, but only one fish really crashed it. The ones I caught barely made a ripple on the water when they took the bait. I had tried my old standby chrome zara pup and pulled one fish in on it, but seemed to have more reaction to the buzzbait. The one time I took my attention off the bait, the biggest fish of the night crashed the lure and actually scared me he hit so hard. Of course I missed him, but it was an awesome blow up anyways. I didn't catch many fish on worms this year, guess I will see what next year brings now.

Yeah, that's a small boat ramp. It's going to be restricted to electric motors only. I've got a 16' flat bottom back home I need to stick a trolling motor on and put in out there eventually. There is a BUNCH of the structure that you won't be able to really fish very well from the bank on this thing. To me, all the good places to fish are going to be about 20 yards out from the bank. If you could keep your boat about there, and then just troll arouddn and around the lake you will be able to just move from rock pile to rock pile, to PVC crosses, to rock pile, etc. as long as you wanted to fish. :-)

There is also a bunch of small trees that had grown up in the bottom that are now submerged. I wonder how long those will stay standing?

Looks great out there... I'm looking forward to reports from there. They put a lot of effort in the structure. Makes me want to go dig a pond in my pastures so I can have some easy access fishing.

Too cool!!!!
