I leave for Amistad tonight!!! I have not been able to read and/or post much lately, so I apologize if I have missed any thing. RECAP of the last week or so: Change office locations-now splitting time at home and at an office an hour away. Wished my buddies good luck as they took off on an Elk hunt in CO. Found out the elk I thought I missed last year was found a few days after we left. According to the taxi who mounted it, the thing was huge. Just my luck. Good Luck to all who are fishing or hunting in the next few days. Mike, I hope things are getting better for you and your family. Wade, don't forget the camera. Gotta go pack. Did I mention I'm going to Amistad? I'll honk occasionally as I pass through the great state of Texas. BassZone.com

Mike, we are still waiting on the new order of shirts. Come on that Barney looking hat is cool. I'll make sure Mark gets you some new stuff. I think we are headed down 83 for most of the way. I'm leaving out of Duncan, OK. Thanks Wes. I'm upset with myself for not finding it but after a day and 1/2 looking for sign and not finding any, I gave up. At least it is gracing the wall of someone. 13 hunters went up last weekend. 9 elk are hanging in camp. 6 bulls and 3 cows. I better catch some fish. BassZone.com

Well, it was an awesome trip. We made it down to Del Rio in 8 hours. (had a little help from a strong north wind.) We had never been on the lake before and our choice of fishing areas was limited with the wind howling out of the north. Once we got our fishing license and looked at a map, we decided on the Rough Canyon area. We were on the water at daylight and ready to go. The first fish of the day was a smallmouth. Now I love catching brownies, but that is not what we came to Texas for. Things got better as the third fish of the day was what we wanted. This fish looked to push the 10lb mark but weighed in at 8lbs even. We stayed in the Rough Canyon area most of the day and ended up catching over 50 bass with several in the 4lb range. We even got treated to some Texas Wildlife. The next day I had to take care of some work and we didn't get serious about the fishing until almost 11 a.m. Again, the third or so fish of the day was a nice one. She looked bigger in the clear water, but only weighed 7.5 lbs. All the smaller fish we caught were fat as ticks, but the two big ones were real skinny. The second day was not as good as the first and we only boated around 30 fish. (only 30 ) Saturday, we hooked up with some friends from Midland/Odessa and they took us up the Rio Grande. It was amazing. We fished grass all day and caught a lot of fish. No real size but a ton of bites. Vince and I both had chances at some good fish, but we didn't get them in the boat. Our main lure of choice was a 1 ounce green/brown jig. I also caught a lot of fish on a 10 inch watermelon/green worm with black and green glitter flakes. We learned a lot and we are already planning a return trip. If anyone is planning a trip to Amistad, I can share more details on where and what we did. Side note: The locals laughed at our choice of fishing area - Rough Canyon-it seems to be one of the worst places on the lake. (We did alright though.) BassZone.com

Those are some nice ones, Dru. Glad you and Vinny had a good time. I'm also glad to see you finally putting the things I taught you to good use, Bro. BTW, when do we get the Acuna - Boys Town recap? |

If I remember right, you are the Boys Town expert. We did not cross the border except on the water. Mike Mundy from Midland and Steve Main from Odessa were great. They took us out in their boats and spent the entire day trying to put us on fish. We may try to return this spring during the spawn. BassZone.com

Charles, we stayed at the Ramada. It has a place to park boats with electric hook ups. We are thinking of going again in March, hopefuly to catch the tail end of the spawn. They said it starts in Feb. BassZone.com

Yes, Oz you can see down 20 feet, but that is in perfect conditions. 10-15 was the norm last week. We were fishing grass in 27 feet and could see the top of the grass in about 15 feet. The guys were talking about seeing beds in 18 feet of water last year. BassZone.com
