A boy in Jessica's class that she is very close to has been diagnosed with an in-operable brain tumor. We went to see them at Children's Medical Center in Dallas last week and his father told us that he does not have insurace -- self employed, single income family. Their insurance recently lapsed that he has been paying on for the last 9 years. He has filed all the paperwork for aid and was denied all because he makes "too much money". He told me what their income is and although it is a modest income to allow comfortable living in the country, it is nothing significant enough to handle what lies ahead of them -- hundreds of thousands of dollars in bills.

We have already started raising funds through our church and Connie plans on taking this cause to all of the local churches in our community. We are trying to think of any ways that we can assist this family in dealing with what they have in front of them and one method I thought was a benefit fishing tournament. Connie is also considering putting together a benefit trail ride to raise even more funds.

My question to you is, do you think the benefit bass fishing tournament should be held this fall/winter or should I wait and have it in the spring?

We still have a lot of logistics to work through from a standpoint of where to house the funds so people can make their donations tax deductible, who to register with, etc...

This family will be dealing with this for years to come no matter if Anthony (10 yrs old) lives or is consumed by his cancer. For now, we are going to have faith and pray to God that the chemo, radiation, and herbal suppliments cure his condition and all the family has to deal with is a stack of bills.

Connie has taken this as her mission to bring relief of some sorts to this family and I support her 100%.

I will keep ya'll posted on all efforts going on and how you can help. We have a lot of work on our end to get straight and I know it my heart that the Holy Spirit will guide us in making the right decisions.

Man, what a tough pill to swallow. I'll keep Anthony and family in my prayers.

Mike,

You might want to contact Mike Rouse with CABA Outdoors ( www.cabaoutdoors.com ). He might be willing to put on a tournament and is already set-up for the tax deductible part.

Good call Charles... Connie is actually on the phone right now with Anthony's father making sure that he is ok with us spearheading fund raisers. She spoke with the man organizing the efforts for another sick little boy in Farmersville and he has given her good direction on the accounts and how to go about managing the fund raisers. We were already planning to attend the chili dinner fund raiser in Farmersville next weekend and now we have even more reason to go. I'll be cooking up a pot of chili to take as well.

I'll get in touch with Mike soon.

I certianly will Ozzie, I am going to call a Fork guide that his father has been taking him out with since Anthony was 3 years old and see what he can do to help out at the Benefit BBQ & Auction as well as the tournament.

Mike another thing you might consider is a turkey shoot. When I was living in El Campo the VFW had turkey shoots. They had local businesses donate prizes most were just certificates worth so much merchandise in their store. It was simple and easy. They did it 2 times a year and usually averaged 7500 profit per shoot.

I'll look into it "P", I wonder if the "Field & Stream" chapter of Collin County 4H would be willing to help with this...
