Ya'll remember the young boy that I mentioned from Jessica's class with brain tumors? Well, I completely dropped the ball and neglected to mention that there is a BBQ dinner, bake sale, and auction being held at the Trenton Elementary school cafeteria this afternoon. The doors open at 4:30 and they will start serving dinner around 5:15 or so. A BBQ plate will be $5.50 and Connie is cooking things for the bake sale as well as many contributions from our church. I believe Janet Parker who fishes on the WBT has gathered some auction items as well and Lake Fork Guide Rick Carter is also contributing.

I realize that it is last minute, but if you are close enough and want some good BBQ come visit. I can give directions if needed -- 214-738-4508

Thanks Dean, Charles was able to make it and we tried to bid on a guide trip to Fork but when the bidding got to $450 we bailed.

The event was a huge success and I can't wait to hear the final numbers for money raised. Connie worked the back sale and thinks she took in well over $350. There was a watch on the silent auction that went for $300 and a metal art decoration that went for $300. Several items on the live auction went for over $100 so I am sure the amount raised will be a huge help to the family.

It was great to see the turnout from our small town and the surrounding areas. I would not be suprised if they sold over 100 plates of BBQ at $5.50 a plate.... It adds up quick and I know it will help out.

Dean, I'll give you a call tomorrow when I am on the road...

Here are a few pictures from the event:

The silent auction tables went on forever:

Great event. I was impressed how a community has rallied together to help a neighbor in need.

Here's a big pat on the back for a job well done Mike.

Great to have you there Charles. I can't wait to hear the final tally for attendance and money raised.

Connie was instrumental in getting things done as well and I give her the bulk of the credit for our family's contribution.

Found out from Connie that we raised over $10k... That will go a long way towards the initial 5 day hospital stay and surgery.

Glad you asked that Charles, Anthony is coming home today for a 1 month break from treatment. The tumors are responding to the radiation treatments and have been reduced in size. He will be home for a month and then return to St. Judes for 6 months of chemo treatments.

He is not out of the woods yet but the prognosis for survival is very high now.

Rick Carter and I decided to push back the benefit tournament until early summer because he was getting feedback that led him to believe that there would be a low turnout in February.
