My cousin was in town this past weekend and we got to do a little fishing. Tuesday evening we went out about 6:00 and fished until dark and the mosquito's got so bad we had to go in. I decided that I was taking a cooler, and one lure. The morning before we fished with one drink, and the tackle bag. Hit it pretty hard, and ended up using tiny 1/16th ounce jigs at the end to bring a few fish in. Tonight, I decided my lure of choice would be the Zara puppy in chrome after several people here spoke highly of them on the topwater thread. I had several of these lures that I had just never used yet. My cousin said he throws the regular Spooks almost exclusively in Corpus where he is from. He went with the bone colored pup, and off we go, loaded with Shiner's and our poles.

Having never fished this lure, I didn't know anything about "walking the dog" other than that was the prefered way to do it. A few casts and a little practice, and I had the hang of it. It started out slow, but the later it got, the better it got. For me anyways. I ended up with 8 or 10 fish. Enough that my thumb is still tore up from lipping them. My cousin had 0. He had several come up and boil the water under it, or strike short, but none would commit and jump right in the middle of it like they would mine. I tried to get him to take my pole and use it because I was curious to see if it was technique, or color of lure that was the difference, but he said he didn't want my charity. :-) It was a fun night. Walking in he said, "Yeah, the only thing I caught tonight was West Nile." We laughed our butts off cracking on one another and drinking some beer. He's wanting me to come down to Corpus and give saltwater a go for some reds. He has had pretty good luck down there wading. Might have to get something planned for next spring or summer.

I love fishin the pup on ponds... Glad you broke down and gave it a try. It's always fun to catch bass on topwater, but even more fun catch them on topwater and outfish your buddy. :-)

Congrats on a fun evening...
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

No pics. I just wasn't thinking. This kid is ruining my mind!! I still haven't posted the pics from 2 weeks ago!

I rubbed it in to my cousin pretty good. I know he would have done the same if he was whooping up on me. It's all in fun.

It's the same as a Zara spook, jut the smaller size. I thought you were a old salt Mike, isn't a spook a slatwater staple?:-)

Zara Puppy
What color of puppy do you want?

The chrome one (07), is what worked for me the other night.

Take me fishin' and maybe I will be able to keep it under my hat!

My cousin is wantin' me to head to Corpus and do a little wading. I think it will be Springtime or next summer before I can get it done, but I want to catch me a red and speck, and whatever else will bite my line!
