We shagged out there mid day on Friday and tried to hunt in the torrential down pour and gave up. Saturday morning came and went with 7 deer and 3 pigs seen but no shots were taken. Saturday evening was another story. We sat on my wheat field and about 5:30 two deer stepped out onto the field on the other side. I knew one was a buck but at 225 yards it was tough to call which one he was. I put the video camera on him and at 32x zoom I could tell he was the big 6 pointer that Jessica got buck fever trying to shoot during youth weekend. Corey asked me if I was going to shoot him and I told her, "when he gets a little closer." I let him get to around 150 yards or so, positioned the video camera, and prepared for the shot. The Savage .243 bellowed and I heard the thud return signaling the ultimate demise of the big six pointer. The buck jumped up and ran maybe 20 yards before falling to the ground. Corey asked me, "Do you think you hit him?" I replied with, "He's laying right there dead!" On the video you can hear Corey say, "Coooool!" Corey and I set back and said a prayer of thanksgiving for the great hunt and harvest then exchanged a high five in celebration. We gathered our gear, took down the Matrix, and went to get the deer. You want to talk about a circus, picture my 130 pound body and an 8 year old girl working our tails off trying to load this big buck into the back of the truck. We first tied the head up on the tailgait then tried to lift but the front legs were hanging up. So we tied off the front legs and tried again but just could not get over the tailgate so I heaved up the hind legs and Corey tied them off to the truck. Then the two of us got under him and heaved onto the tailgate. It was certianly not an easy chore but together we got it done. Here is a picture of our buck:

Great harvest Mr. Picou and Corey. Got plenty of meat in the freezer this year. Quit being a mad, little bald man! Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic. I forgot the CAMERA!

Thanks guys, it was truly entertaining trying to get that guy in the truck... I skinned and quartered him yesterday and filled the 48 quart to the brim with meat. I had to seperate the meat into two chests so I could put ice on it. Hopefully the youth only weekend is good to Jessica and she can take her first deer this season. Nice deer Mike. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. My bass club webpage http://texbass.8m.com/

Sounds like a plan... We had wild hog shishkabobs last night with onions, bell peppers, and jalapenos all grilled to perfection... Night before that was Axis steaks on the grill smothered in BBQ sauce. I love eating wild game...
