Brenda and I just returned from Fork. We went out there to sink some more brush in what I thought was a fishy area. We dumped the brush in 10 foot of water along a bank that had basically nothing else on it. We now have 2 brush piles in that area. We went over to a small cove about 200-300 yards away and tied on some spinner baits. There were two other boats in the area. One boat left after about a half an hour and there was one left and I think it was a guide, fishing by himself. Water temp was 51 degrees there and was 48 at the ramp. We worked back along the left side of the small cove throwing the spinner baits to the bank and cranking them as slow as we could hoping to catch a fish in flooded grass since the lake was up about 18-24 inches since the last time I was there. After about 45 minutes, we were coming back out on the right side and almost back to the mouth of the cove when I turned to my right and pitched the bait past 2 stumps toward the middle of the creek in about 8-10 foot of water. I cranked the bait past the first stump and then towards the second one, which was only about 8 feet away from the boat. When coming past the second stump, the bait was probably coming up towards the boat when the fish slammed it. I only had to wind the reel several cranks before it was time to grab the net. With the pole in one hand and net in the other, I missed the first try to net the fish and then got her on the second try. Brenda was freaking out because she had never seen a bass that big. The fish measured just over 22 inches and I estimated her weight at around 8-9 pounds. My Berkley scales no longer work so I could not weigh the fish. The fish was a toad and getting plump with eggs. We only fished about another 20 minutes because the wind was blowing right in there and it had not warmed up any yet. We could have stayed another hour before having to pick up Sophie from school but just blew it off and headed toward the house. We did stop at Star Mart on the way down 515 and the word there was the crappie fishing is better than outstanding. (The reason you got so much detail here is that I wrote this in an email to Tommy over in Japan.) Brush sunk, fish caught….. Thanking Him, all day long --- tomc

Congrats on getting the job done twice! Quit being a mad, little bald man! Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic. I forgot the CAMERA!

I'm glad to see some people know how to catch the big ones in Fork. Did everyone see the 2nd share a lunker caught by the 7 year old? Makes me want to give up and play golf. Then again what's more frustrating not catching a 10# bass or not making a 2' putt. The way I play my odds are probably better with the fish. Congrats on a nice winter bass. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. My bass club webpage http://texbass.8m.com/

I went back out there the next day with Ozziefish and we fished about an hour or two. Ozzie caught 3 and I was zeroed. Ozzie caught a decent slot fish and two under. Oz took his slotfish on a spinner bait and 2 on a watermellon seed brush hog. We had to leave cause Oz had an afternoon date with the crappie. As one ole timer put it.... One day your a hero and the next day your a zero;) Thanking Him, all day long --- tomc
