Anyone try one of those newer ABU Revo I think they are called??? The one kinda built like Curado's. Just curious.

Never tried them, I am a dyed in the wool Shimano guy these days so anything else is difficult for me to spend money on. Especially now that Shimano has come out with a Citica 100 deep spool reel.

BTW Bigun, I think that Matt is fixing to sell all of his fishing stuff and he has a ton of ABU reels he will be wanting to get rid of. I think they are 3500C models.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I found the durability on the new Shimano's lacking something lately. The guy I charter for returned four of them before he got one that did not click, clack, or clutter. :-)

I was impressed with the ABU Record I bought until it went down in 10' of water with my new Falcon rod in October. Was not a good day. Only complaint I had on that reel is it backlashed easily with a little wind in the face. So was curious on these newer model ABU's.

How is your Citica holding up?

Big, I am seriously considering getting either REVO S or Record 50. I hate to hear about your Record. McNew can tell you that I have lost more combos to "Davey Jones Locker" than he owns. I have been to Bass Pro here in Atlanta to look at each one. I am getting pretty close to buying the REVO S ($99). I like using the low profile reels for topwater and round reels for grub, poppers, and livies.

John Burke, Welcome to the ramp brother! About time you quit watching and posted something up SON.

I don't remember which size Record I had but it was fine throwing, smooth reel, and awesome drag. They did take a little playing with to get them set right but once set it was automatic!

I have not see a $99 Revo. All of them I've seen are $169 I think.

Big, I have been looking at the REVO "S" it has two less ball bearings than the "SX" and the "STX". The other two have a different drag system. I might as well buck up and get the SX since the Record has gone up to $140. The RN50, Record, used to be $130. If I get a good All Star rod to go with it, I will be looking at $250 to $300. That is going to be a ballsy maneuver past the wife! Like I said, I have lost 3 outfits, two of which were pretty pricey. Do they make water wings for rods?

P.S. I guess this not how you post pictures in this forum. Little Help!

Welcome to the Ramp John...

For posting pictures to the site you do not need to have them hosted elsewhere. You can load them directly from your PC up to the server by using the "Upload Attachment" button at the bottom below the password entry blank. The files must be 150k or smaller. I am sure there is a way to post an image that is already uploaded on another server but I have never tried it. I'll look into that and let you know.

BTW, pretty redfish...

Welcome!!!

Big, you know what they say, "Even a blind dog can hunt!" I am getting tickled at McNew. He is counting the days til the sheepshead start running good in Moblile. To hear him talk about eating sheepshead, you'd think he was eating leg of lamb. I believe he's just about converted over to a spark plug chunker. I have to say they do make a good "West Indies" salad. And, they don't pull half bad either.

I've been trying to get McNew to come down all fall but I do not have football tickets I guess so he won't return my phone calls or emails. What a friend he is! :-)

Everytime I get together with him he says we ought to call you up and get on some of that fish whoopin' down your way. I told him when he got froggy, I would jump. He's wanting me to spend money on out-of-state license's in LA and MS.

Get this, he joined this $1300 hunting club and has only seen one deer all year. Needless to say, he is highly devistated.

Troy sounded like we were going to start making two trips a year down to Grand Isle. The guide we got last trip was okay. The first day we went out into the Gulf and caught Mangroves and Cobes. The boat that Troy was in went back into the bay, "Basa Basa", to a gas head and caught some nice trout on shrimp. The next day the wind blew to hard for us to go back out. So, we hugged the marsh and caught reds, specks, and sheepies. This guide was telling me I could not catch fish on plastics, so I had to proooove him wrong. After the third red, I started to make him a believer. I believe we ought to be able to figure that place out. All the places we went to looked just like home. We don't have the duck ponds like you have, but we do have the marsh, oyster bars, and wrecks (structure). Though the day was limited, we hit a lot of these type areas. If we could weed out the serious fisherman, I think we could make a long day and locate some fish. What ya think? Man, me and McNew would ride back with you to Dularge and catch some fish. Like you said, you'll probably have dump my arse off at Timbalier. Ha, Ha!

BTW, here is the website for ABU Garcia:

That is what he meant by I least I saw deer. He did not elaborate any further. I know the problem though. He is not tall enough to see over top of the box blind!

For GI, You guys are much better off chartering locals than having me drag a boat. :-) If I fished it more than once a year, we would stand a chance.

Fishing with me, your license is only $5 for three days permit. Don't let cost hold you back.

Pretty impressed with the new ABU on it's first trip. Smooth throwing and drag is sweet. Handle some pretty good size reds without hardly slipping at all. Did take some adjusting to get tension just right on backspooling but the wind was pretty tough and think I had it licked by the end of the day.
