I’ve been thinking about getting a glass rod. I had a discussion with a friend of mine over the weekend and he asked, “Why do you need a glass rod?” The question kind of stumped me. My answer was basically “… because the Pros use them and/or somebody said I needed it…” What are the benefits? I know BPS carries a Browning that is fairly inexpensive or I could go high $ with other brands. What brands do you guys suggest? Any help would be appreciated. BassZone.com

I have a a 7ft David Fritts Browning rod that is great for throwing a DD-22 crank bait. It really helps keep the drag of a big crank bait from waring you out. It also flexes so much that fish won't pull off as much as other rods. It heavier but really work well for deep diving baits. I think thats why the pro use them?? OzzieFish "In GOD I trust"

I see a Fritts signature series made by Rodsmith but not a Browning. What action is your 7ft? BassZone.com

Glass rods are more flexible and used for the purpose Ozzie mentioned. |

Today's technology has gotten to the point that glass rods are no longer the best alternative for crankbaits. Many of the independent rod companies are making casting rods with spinning blanks. They can get the power needed and a more responsive action that is geared for keeping up with the fish and preventing baits being tossed. Dru, This rod is about 10-12 years old and I'm not sure what action it is but I'm thinking it a MH. OzzieFish "In GOD I trust"

I do not think I've ever fished with a glass rod so no help. Those Hendrix rods look nice but I really have trouble justifying paying much more than $80 for rod for abuse I put them through and my recent case of dropsies. Any of them float?? Bigun, If you spent any amount of time fishing it's worth paying more for a rod to avoid fatigue, plus you look way more kewl with a more expensive rod |

As often as you toss rods overboard Bigun, you need to stick with the cheap stuff... I should be getting my Hendrix Rods pretty soon and one of them is a crankbait rod. I'll be able to give some feedback on them shortly there after. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish FTN Webs -- Affordable Small Business & Personal Web Sites
