For those of you who do not know, I signed on with Vicious Fishing this year and the day on Fork was the first time I ever used it. I snapped off two fish back to back on the hookset. I have talked with Keith (VP of Vicious) and we are trying to figure out why. My guess is that I have something with my St. Croix rod tip that is damaging the line but Keith will be evaluating the line I return to him and he is sending me a new spool.

Anyway, I saw this picture from Amistad of Reynolds who's boat sports a Vicious wrap and just busted up laughing....

Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Mike: you need to tie a cinch knot like a uni or the improved trilene. A polamar will break on the hook set.

Nice pic

I do tie a cinch. Thru unscientific testing that Wes and I did many years ago, we determined that the Improved Cinch was stronger than the polomar knot.

I'll definately keep ya'll updated on the line/rod issues.

Send it here. I'll test it for you on some redfish to determine if it is your tip or the line.

Mike, I did not mean to infer that you were not tying a cinch knot, just that fluorocarbon has a tendency to break on the hook set when using a palomar.

I respooled two reeels last night with Vicious line I picked up at the Classic. I am using a knot Aaron showed me. I will let you know the results after I hopefully set the hook on some good fish this weekend.

I could live off the cost of the line these guys go through in a year.

Charles, it is the same as the San Diego knot jus doubled. Double the line going through the eye, make your wraps and go back through the loop. Aaron said the key was not to cinch the knot by pulling on the tag ends but just pull on the main line. Clear as mud?

My situation is a little different from yours but I found that - the rods going through the rod tip holes on the t-top - the area where the string would rub on the top was damaging line and I lost a few fish before I figured that out.
