I ordered a lms-480 from cabelas. I am having some problems with it locking up after a couple of hours of use. I called cabelas and they did not have one in stock to send me and asked me to call lowrance. After trying for 2 days and spending several hours on hold I decided to submit the ticket via email. That was yesterday morning and still haven't heard anything back from them. I think I am just going to return the unit back to cabelas and purchase a different one.

Thanks for the number Dru, if I don't hear anything back in email by sometime tomorrow I will call her.

As for my comment about their customer support.... I have called twice, been on hold for probably 5 hours total and have yet to talk to real person. If you are dumb enough to hit the button to repeat one of the "suggetions" the automated voice tells you about, it gets stuck in an infinite loop with the same suggestion makeing you want to shoot yourself in the head if you have to hear it again. As for submitting the problem via email, I figured I would have heard something back within 24hours besides the auto email I got back thanking me for submitting my email.

In my free time while being on hold I did find an flash upgrade for my model to version 2.1 to fix a problem similar to mine. It didn't work though.

I can't stand automated answering services so if I have a question I try to find a direct line.

Maybe they need to oiutsource their support service to India... lol

Thats no good - I am trying to decide what brand electronics to put on my Scarab - Lowrance? Garmin? RayMarine? I did not think about this factor - after the sale support.. but I will have the boat dealer to lean on.

I am looking at Radar, Sonar, GPS, etc...

The lady selling me the boat at LMC (Jill Miller) uses Lowrance and she said she and/or her husband who are guides will take me out 3 or 4 times and teach me about this stuff.. They use and like Lowrance.

That really does suck to get customer service like that. I've seen some of the chats with Linda on the BZ board and she sure seems to care how the customer feels so give her a call and see if you can get it taken care of.

Just an update on this. I received the replacement unit from Linda on the 17th of April. Haven't had a chance to try it yet since that was the day I left for India. I also received an email from Lowrance today with some hints on how to trouble shoot my problem. This was in response to the email I sent on 4-2 so it took them almost a month to respond to the email.
