Yamalube is what I used in the Skeeter when I had that boat. That is what Plano Marine recommended. Thanking Him, all day long --- tomc

Terry, I have an 06 Zx250 with a yamamama on the back 250 HP, I used to fish for skeeter and the marine that always did the service on our boats would use the Quick siver oil. That is the only oil I would use. One day I asked him about the specials they always run on oil at different stores ie academy, bass pro, and walmart. His comment was you get what you pay for, the higher the price the better the oil. The guy that did the service also said he could tell what kind of oil you used by doing work on your motor. I dont know if that is true or not but Im a firm beliver in the Quick silver for the yamahas. Catching Big Ole PIGS... It's Awesome Man Zach Hughes

I thought that quicksilver was an evinrude product?????? I was told to use yamalube in my new 2 stroke. I ran penzoil in my old yamaha and never had a mechanical problem. Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish FTN Webs -- Affordable Small Business & Personal Web Sites

I dont know I mean I guess its like anything else, use what has worked for you in the past. If it aint broke dont break it is that what they say? I aint blown one up yet........yet that is! That is actually great info Zeeter because for many, many years I have been led to believe that each manufacturor has a blend that is special for their motors. Based on your experience with the product and I know you run your boats hard, tells me that I have been wrong all these years -- imagine that... I thought Quicksilver was for Mercurys. Like you Mike I thought each manufacturer had there own "special" oil they want you to run. I just was wondering what you pro's used. Thanks for the info!!!!! |

I was always told you are asking for trouble with warranty work if you are not using the oil recommended. May be partially true since Mercury site states to use Mercury or quicksilver oil or the use of an inferior 2-cycle outboard oil can reduce engine durability. Damage from use of inferior oil may not be covered under the limited warranty. Could not find it on Yamaha site but bet it reads same somewhere. If engine is under warranty I would run the recommended oil. It closes the loophole. After that I truly believe there is not a whole lot of difference between any of them. I ran the cheapest Wally world brand oil there was for the whole five years I had my Johnson and 5 of seven years I had my Yam 115 and never had one wrench put on either. I've had mechanics tell me the big difference is if you are mixing it in a tank that the cheap oil's don't stay mixed with the fuel well?? Can't back that up though. I dont think your wrong PQ like bigun said he's used different types too. I mean if they start and get me to where I'm going hell thats good enough oil for me...right mike. Also if I can keep that oil light and annoying sound off I might be able to catch fish. Catching Big Ole PIGS... It's Awesome Man Zach Hughes

My first Yamaha I was told to run either Yamalube or Quicksilver. I ran Quicksilver and never had trouble, I have a friend that only uses Penzoil(no problems). I was told by another mechanic if you want to avoid any warranty hassles use the oil made by the manufacture of your motor. So I love my $27.00 gallon yamalube. Good luck!!!! |

FYI - I looked it up in the owners manual and it said Yamalube or any TC-3W certified oil. So I think I am going to run Quicksilver in it. (fingers crossed) |
