I split time this past weekend between fishing and hunting. Started off Friday fishing the club tournament on Texoma. It started off pretty good with a limit by 10:30. I only had one good fish though but thought I would be able to upgrade on some of my small fish through the rest of the day. None of my April patterns seemed to be producing good fish though and I ended up in 3rd place with 10.38 lbs. My big fish was 4.19 lbs. No pictures due to my wife taking the camera.

Sunday morning I went to the lease to try spring time turkey hunting. I had never done this before so I didn't know what to expect. I got to the lease around 9:00 that morning and saw a couple of goblers on the move. After talking to the land owner for a while I was able to get setup around 10:30. I went ahead and hunted my feeder but put a hen decoy out as well.

I started off calling but only heard one gobble and never saw anything come in. The rain started shortly after that. I sat it out in my ground blind and shortly after it stopped a gobbler came running in. He went right past the decoy and started eating corn. I didn't give him time to change his mind about the hen and put an arrow through him. The bird went 5 yards and was done. Took him back to camp and got him cleaned.

Decided to fish in our pond after that and then the rains hit again. The next day I sat at the feeder again and had a second gobbler come in. I put an arrow through him as well but he managed to walk off. After tracking good blood for about 50 yards it just stopped and I was unable to find him.

The rains came again that afternoon and the hunting time was pretty much done. I was a little disapointed that I didn't get one to come in to the call but I was happy to get a bird with my bow.

All in all it was a pretty successful weekend. Ate some wild turkey for the first time and it was pretty good. The whole family tried it and there were no complaints. That makes it even more worth while.

Congrats on what sounds like a really great weekend. If those birds get out of sight it can be difficult to find them. I've lost a few of them with arrows. I much prefer when they cartwheel and expire... :-)

I still have not made any effort to go turkey hunting and maybe I should but there is just too much fishing to be done...
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish
