Big P just introduced to me to this site - thanks, Jason! I don't fish very often these days, but I do like to get in touch with my inner angler on occasion.

Can anyone tell me what time of year the whitebass are best to fish for and what lures or baits work the best on Lake LBJ?

Thanks!

Welcome to the ramp Sika. I can't help you on LBJ but on the lakes up here the whites should be starting school on top right now.

You should be able to see the fish schooling in the mornings and evenings. Once you find a school ease up to them as best you can without disrupting them and cast a small topwater. Some good baits are tiny torpedos, pop r's, small zara spooks. If they're feading you shouldn't have any trouble getting bites.

Once they go down switch to a deeper running bait like a little george or a small rattle trap in a shad pattern. Another good bait is a curly tail grub on a lead head. It's good because there is only one hook to deal with.

Maybe some of the southern guys can be more specific for LBJ. Good luck.

Welcome to the ramp Court... I'm not sure I can give any more details than Tex did. If you are fishing from a boat then summer time is a great time for sandbass. They school up in large schools and chase shad all over the lakes. Usually the birds will indicate where the active feeding is taking place.

I have never been on LBJ but hopefully others can help out more.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Welcome, Courtney.

Tex hit it on the head as far as what to use. If they are biting good you can switch out the treble hooks on your rattle trap to single hooks. It easier to get them off the hook and get back to fishing.
