I do alot of white bass fishing on lakes and usually the birds are there. This week on two different days there were no birds. This is a place where the fish have been schooling for the past two months and the birds were there everyday until this week. I don't recall ever seeing this before, any thoughts?

Welcome to the Ramp Txshooter.

The shad are trying to spawn. Last weekend at Texoma the shad were cruising the banks acting like they are ready to spawn. The whites probably haven't moved far but I bet the bait has headed for the shallows.

Keep an eye out early in the morning and late in the day. The time is right for these fish to get on a serious schedule.

Thanks for the welcome Dru.

The fish have been biting very well early and late, I'm just wondering why all of the birds were gone this week even though the fish were still busting shad on top.

Welcome to The Ramp Txshooter. Great looking dog in your picture.

If I had to guess, the weather probably has the birds screwed up. I have not been out during the day lately and the only white bass fishing I have done this year was last night with the kids. I have heard that the birds are the key on some of the North Texas lakes lately for whites.

Which lake are you fishing for white bass?
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

It's been a lot of years since I fished on Somerville. From what I remember the white bass fishing was pretty good out there. Of course, my favorite time was fishing the Yegua Creek in the spring during the spawn.

Looking forward to some pictures from you trips on the lake.

Most of the birds we see, gulls and such do not live here. They move trough stopping for a meal. They livc on the coast. Most make the trip to the Great Lakes stop off here for a meal or two. They also head up to breed, so they will be back. They will spend all summer traveling to the food. Hope this helps a little.
