Went to take the Ranger to the lake this weekend and found a new problem.

To make it short - My daughter noticed that when I pulled on the T-Top the deck where she was standing in front of the center console was coming up under her feet.

I took it to the fiberglass shop and the T-Top guy and both told me the deck has ?degalzed? from the stringer system.

I dropped it off at Texas Marine (since Travis is no longer in business and Tracker no longer supports Ranger products) and I guess it is now a waiting game top see what will happen.

I am told that they cannot seperate the top and bottom hull to repair the problem because of the exceptional construction quality. Everything is too well bonded and the foam filling aids in the bonding.

:-(

Dean, You have some bad luck with boats. Every think about taking up golf? I would not let them know you go 30 miles offshore in 4-5 ft waves BTW.

Bigun - Ya Think? My last 2 trips off shore the wave height was - 0' - according the NOAA believe it or not. I do not think I have ever seen lake Conroe as calm as them 2 days.

It is in the gps - are the locations stored in the removable chip? I might be able to get the chip tomorrow but it is going back to Ranger.

Anyway - why else would they put 70 gallons of gas on board? - At 2.4mpg means I can go 84 miles out if I want to.

And I do not even go out in 2-3ft seas. What happens once I get out there I have no control over. I will not go out in rough seas because I get sea sick and cannot take dramamine because I fall asleep on the way home in the truck - I drive the truck.. A few times I have gotten to the gulf and pulled out then went to the bay because it was too rough. not high seas but too rough.

Anyway - I am not in control of this matter - I can only depend on the good Lord above for his will to be done. I guess I am being directed into a bigger boat.. but I'm chicken to make the move..

Dean, I was just messing with ya. Notice the big smile. Ranger should stand behind it. I've seen Lake Fork rougher than the gulf let me tell you.

It is unbelievable the problems you have with boats... I sure hope that Ranger takes care of this issue because there is no way I can figure this one to be your fault. Keep us posted on what happens with this one.

You have to get your boat back by the first week in August. I want to go fishing in it this time... :-)

PQ - After all I have put up with I guess you want to see what I see in this boat - huh? Only 49lb ling and 18lb snapper can tell... not to mention many limits of flounder, trout, and redfish... and then take it to the lake and ski and tube all day... Very universal boat.

I hear through the grapevine that these factory deals take 3 months +- ... May be back here in time for your visit..

Hopefully I will have free time this time when you visit. I plan on fishin a LOT..

I'll bet you don't want to borrow it now -

Bigun - I know - I'm just messin back. I appreciate the opportunities you all give me to vent. I need that.

I am so pissed/depressed right now but I try to maintain my composure. Now is the time for big trout and the ling are moving in thick. I have a hole where something big keeps breaking me off or getting away every time I go there. I only get 1 or 2 tries at it each time I go there and I have missed it the 4 or 5 times I've been. This is where I cought the 18lb snapper. I suspect it to be a nice grouper - I want to catch that sucker but I'll bet it is GONE by the time I get there again.... not to mention I only have very select days I can go there because of the seas.

Some say I am too nice and this is why I have so many problems and get screwed all the time. I need to learn to get mean and - and - and - take it out on my friends and family.... lol

Still Waiting!

Spoke with Ranger last week and they said they would pick it up from the dealer in a few weeks.

humtydum - latida - this is awefull. Everyone I talk to says the seas are less than 2' all week and they are limiting out on snapper, kings, ling, tons of dorado - and I'm stuck without a boat.

Go figure..

I thought about it - Flippin Arkansas - but fuel cost would be outrageous - 11mpg 587mi each way - ~ 59gal each way @ $3/gal - ~$350 fuel + food and hotel - $500?

I don't think Ranger will spring for that.

Besides - I don't think they care. Product Sold - Warranty Problem (hopefully) - no new revenue - ya know - back burner stuff.

Maybe it just takes that long to schedule - I don't know. I guess we will see what happens when they get it there.

After all - It has only been 2 1/2 weeks so far since I dropped it off.

Talked to Ranger yesterday - Sent them anotrher list of what needs to get worked on. Not a bad list - perspectively - Structural problem, electrical problem, cosmetic problems, ya know - the normal thing.

They said they are removing the fuel tank and going to access the area that the bonding has failed. They said that the screws that are mounting the T-Top are much too short and could have contributed to the problem of the stringer - deck seperation (yea - my )..

I must be getting used to this - We will see as we go forward how Ranger will handle this one.

Anyone know anything about Robalo boats?

http://marinemax.com/Page.aspx/diid/1043518/list/InventoryList/pageId/85/view/Details/2006-Robalo-240CC.aspx

I am considering a trade to this one.

Looks like a boat that can handle where you want to go Dean. If you can work out a trade then it might be a good deal.

Hopefully Ranger just takes care of your boat and does not pull the -- "it ain't my fault"...

Thanks for the update!

Update -

Ranger said they have just about completed repairs on my boat.

1) Deck Seperation - They said the T-Top conttributed to the problem. The screws used in the T-Top were too short and did not reach the stringer. They have installed reinforcements and longer screws and say I "will not have this problem again".

2) Cavitation - They removed the 6" jack plate installed by Travis and put on a 10" jack plate. Problem should go away.

Other matters were addressed and I will just have to live with them I guess. They do not really affect the operation of the boat.

I am glad Ranger has repaired the problems above. I have to give them credit for that and they were nice about it too. Now I just need to get it back.

Great to hear that they are taking care of those things. I can understand how the bolts not making it to the stringer could cause deck separation. Interesting on the jack plate that they are going to a larger one. I would have suspected they just lower the motor.

Do you know when you are getting the boat back?

Thanks Guys!

I'd love to sell it but I do not think I could get enough to buy something bigger or better. My business has been like a big roller coaster and cash flow is very unstable so to go and get in debt for another 30-40K might not be a wise decision. I have found another Ranger off-shore boat I could make a even trade for but the guy wants about 8K over book value for his and I would get about 6K under book value for mine. This boat will have to do for now until life stabilizes a little. You could say I am cought in a catch 22 - danged if I do and Danged if I don't. At least there is a good warranty on this boat - otherwise I'd be in trouble.

I might get it back this week and if not then it would be the week of July 9 before they could ship it.

I'm looking forward to posting some new fishing reports :-)

Update - We went to Flippin (Ranger) to pick up the Ranger. While we were up there we went to Bull Shoals Lake and sputtered around a while before heading home. Round trip in less than 48hr but it was nice to get on the highway again.

Ranger took care of the deck problem and put the bigger jack plate on for me at no charge. Unfortunately they were closed so I did not get to meet any of the managers working on it. I utilized security to get it out although it was pre arranged. I met with one tech and he told me basically that I will not have the deck problem any more with the reinforcements they put in.

Well - I took a customer and his son out Saturday and as ccould be figured - problems again. This time the wash down system did not work and the front live well did ot work. While cleaning I noticed a weld on the T-Top was cracked where it meets the pipe. When I told my customer about the weld - he was surprised because it was not a rough ride - at all. I have to wonder if it was there before and I never noticed it.

Anyway - I got it back, took it out once, and I will now be taking it back to the dealer again for more warranty work to be done.

Boat ownership is great!!

Aluminum welds crack very easily especially if any stress on them at all. Should be minimal fix I would think.

Boat ownership is always fun. The best part is the bigger the boat, the more there is to break! Keep your head up Dean. There is still a little summer left and you may make it out yet! :-)

It has gotten to a point that I can't help but laugh... Sorry you have those other problems Dean but you will get thru it and be out fishing in no time. You might be better off fixing the things yourself other than the weld. I have a bilge pump not working and will just fix it myself and the dealership will send me the parts.

Get that thing ready for when we come down there at the end of the month.
