I fished our first of two night tournaments on Lake X Monday night. My brother joined me for half the first half of the night so we got started at 8:00pm. We started on a stretch of main lake reeds and started pulling short fish. After a few throw backs I was able to land a solid 3+ keeper. The rest of the stretch produced 2 more solid keepers before darkness hit. We stuck with the reed pattern after dark but the fish weren't as cooperative. I was able to get another good fish out of a set of reeds but for the most part fishing was tough at night. I picked up two more small keepers and lost a nice one before our first weigh in at 1:00. Here is a pic of my two bigger fish at first weigh in.

2 keepers

The second half was much slower for me. I stayed with the reed pattern even though the bite was slow. I only had 3 more keepers but lost 2 good fish that would have given me another 5. I ended up with 8 fish for night at 18.45lbs. It's not official but I believe it was enough for the win.

You know me, once the night tournaments are done I'm likely to string 3 or 4 skunks in a row.:-) I actually shocked myself on this one. It seems I found a pattern different from everyone else. I was just lucky enough to get enough bites during the daylight hours to make up for the slow night bite.

Mark, when are you going to admit that you are a good angler? :-)

Congrats on figuring them out on lake X. Sounds like it was pretty tuff but you stuck with it and put together another solid finish. Did you ever try a buzz bait during the night?

I never tried it. The closest I came was throwing a spinnerbait. I didn't have any luck on the spinnerbait but it seems like everyone else did.

Yes. Saturday afternoons or evenings work great. For this month I'm off on the 23rd and next would be July 7th and 21st. Let me know what works.
