Charles and I did a little pre-fishing on Friday evening to solidify our plan for Saturday's Media tournament. We had everything lined up and our confidence was high in the spots we had located -- then Saturday morning came.

We left the cabin and within 5 miles it started raining on us. We got launched and sat in the truck waiting to see what was going to happen. As the sun broke the rain subsided long enough for takeoff. Just prior to takeoff Charles and I looked down Big Caney and it appeared to be a wall of rain blocking our path to the west side of the lake. The TD announced that it was predicted to get really bad around noon so Charles and I abandoned our plan and headed up the east side to stay close to the ramp.

It did not take long for us to start catching fish on topwater and the first one was a solid 15 1/4" keeper. We then got into the slot fish and I had one break off my yellow magic. The fish jumped next to the boat trying to shake the bait but I did not see my $15 bait floating anywhere so I tied on another and we went back to fishing. About 10 minutes later a fish jumped about 75 yards away from us and Charles jokingly stated -- "there's your fish trying to shake that yellow magic." I looked over there and could see something floating in open water so I decided to go check it out. It was indeed my yellow magic and I was happy... The bait had about an inch or so of line still attached (about where the line gets tied up around the hook occassionaly).

Well, we fished around there for some time and had 4 fish in the livewell by 9:30. We decided to move and were idling thru the timber when some intense lightning struck in front of us. We headed out of there immediately but the rain drops on my skin were killer so we stopped under the bridge to see what was going to happen. It did not take long to see another lightning bolt so we high tailed it to the ramp.

We went up to Oak Ridge and enjoyed some coffee and breakfast and were finally drying off. We probably stayed off the water for a good hour and a half and then headed back out. We quickly picked up our 5th fish and then started culling. We only had 2 decent fish and the rest were dinks. With about 30 minutes left in the tournament we picked up 2 solid keepers back to back and just could not get rid of that last 12" fish.

We weighed in 7.75 pounds and unfortunately it was not enough for a check but it should at least help us in points. There were 93 teams fishing and 18th place was 8.04 so I suspect we are in the top 30.

We caught our fish on several different baits yesterday -- topwater, crankbaits, brush hogs, bass bone, trick worm. All of our fish were in 6' or less of water and all in hydrilla. I lost a decent keeper on the way to the boat and had 2 other fish pull off on the crankbait. I probably missed 4 fish on the yellow magic but was able to toss the bass bone to it on one of them and pick up the keeper.

We stayed wet almost all day and the rain finally broke just before weigh in. After weigh in was complete we decided to go back out and do a little scouting which payed off with 5 more fish and learning a new spot for the next event.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

NIce job Mike. You need to rename that bait to the boonerang yellow magic. See you only need one.

I'll take the others off your hands if you want.

No fish on that new spro frog?

Well done Mike and I suppose the water was a little off color hence the yellow bite? I'm finding that out in the river so many times on off color days.

Nice job guys, I'm waiting to see how far we dropped after an extremely disappointing day on the lake. It's hard to get back on track when you start out on the left foot. However, trolling motor is repaired now... Not that it did me any good.

We wondering about you Oz. Mike and I figured that you didn't fish since your trolling motor was broke.

Looks like Charles and I ended up 23rd for the event and jumped up to 25th overall in points. Ozzie, ya'll fell to 22nd in points and Zach is still up at 15th only dropping one spot.
I think as long as we all show up for the last event we will be in the championship.

We were looking for you before takeoff Ozzie, did you get a late start because of the trolling motor cable?

Nope, I was #82...Michele needed breakfast so we sat and ate. I did make the litte trolling motor work so I can't use that excuse...Poor choices while on the water and the nearly 3hours off the water didn't help much either.
