Got my first real hull damage on the boat this past weekend. I noticed it on Sunday and to be honest, it's kinda upsetting... :-(

Apparently I got on top of a stump and as the boat came off the stump it took a chunk of my fiberglass with it -- lake fork stumps...

Looks like I finally get to meet Mr. Mike @ North Texas Fiberglass.

That stinks! Sorry to hear about the damage.
Just give her some TLC Mike, you will both be alright again soon.

It had to happen Mike. It could be worse. I haven't scratched my new-to me boat yet, but it hasn't left the driveway either. You my friend are at least on the water.

That sucks. The bad part is I don't remember us hitting or bumping into anything hard enough to cause such damage.

I'm curious to see what Bristow recommends.

Is it taking on water?

First scratch is always rough! I would MarineTex it and go about my business until I get a few more scratches. When I had my bass boat that is where it always chipped also. Fiberglass guy told me it is due to gelcoat is weak where it L's up due to hard to get out air bubbles??

I wonder if you could stick a keel guard where boat L's up? Probably would not hold real well though with water pressure from running.

That sucks dude, but doesn't look too bad. I would wait till you get a few more before getting it fixed.

Have you tried using duct tape on that? Maybe some JB Weld...Wait, I know, use some of your wifes finger nail polish that will do the trick...

Bummer - Wish that is all I had to worry about.

It is a simple repair and if it is not drawing water I too would wait. Not a warranty issue so - proportionally - 1 repair might cost $10 and 2 might cost $12.

Maybe bigger boats are heavier and cause more friction/drag when up on a stump.

You ought to see what Oysters do....

At least your stump mark was not as bad as the one I had in my boat last year :-) I did get a whole new Gorilla Hull though.

Looks like that one has you taking on water? Stump got a good bite on the exit. Sorry about the nick, she will be alright though but the downtime for repairs is a pain this time of the year.

Ouch Javelin...

In comparison, my hole is a minor blemish. :-)

I'll get it taken care of and hopefully it don't happen again. I just wish I knew where it happened so I would know what area to avoid...

Dangit!! Cant believe ya'll didn't know when it happened.. Maybe I should look at the bottom of my boat more often.. Especially after a day on the lake..

Repairs on things like these are common and can be done pretty reliably.

A gorilla hull is made by Toledo Fiberglass at Toledo bend www.toledofiberglass.com They are a heavy duty hull, that also is a fast hull. It has a lifetime warrenty from any damage. I gained about 2mph with it and my boat handles like never before plus I never have to worry about a hole again.
