Just wanted to check and see how the fishing was at Purtis if you made it out there. Looking forward to the report... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Yeah, I made it out. It was pretty slow, actually very slow. The warmer weather moved in and seemed to shut the fishing down. I must say...THEY HAVE SOME HUGE BAS OUT THERE. I was fishing for crappie and managed to get a couple small ones along with a couple very small bass. Switched to just bass fishing after seeing 5-6 HUGE bass surfacing. Saw one surface right at the dock that was an easy 25"-26" fish. We went over to the bridge located on the lake where there were soem thick lilly pads. I brought my girlfriend with me and she was the only one that had a chance at a real fish. She was using a jointed Rapala gold and black. Casted at the edge of the pads and WHAM. Right on the surface one of those monsters hit. I really feel it was a 7-8 lb bass. However, close only counts in horseshoes and hang grenades. I talked to a ranger who was walking around as well as some other fishermen and they were very slow as well. The ranger said while the weather was cooler (in the 80's) the fishing really picked up, and fish were biting pretty well in the mornings and late afternoon into dusk. When it was cooler, I guess the fish continued to bite a little bit in the afternoon, but it did slow down a bit. It wasn't to the point of boredom though. Overall, it was a good experience and at least I know I wasn't the only one not catching fish. I feel I could have a t least got a couple more fish if I had a boat. Great looking lake that is just for fishing. Don't have to deal with waterskiers or other speedboat traffic. Deffinately worth another trip out there. Will get there a little earlier this time, and probably rent a canoe. Vewry few boats out there. Only let fifty boats at a time in there. I think it's $2 per person to get into the park, then $5 per boat. Jay |

Wes and I have logged a lot of hours on that little lake. We have a blast out there. I have landed an 11.36 pounder, a 9.75 pounder, 8, blah blah... There are awfully nice fish in the lake and the pressure is a little heavier in the spring. You should try it again more into the fall when not hunting. The canoe is all you really need over there. I feel like the bass boat is overkill. I am glad you got out there and caught some fish. Sorry it wasn't better fishing for ya' though. Congrats... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I still had a blast being out there. It was great to see those giant bass. Being from the North I don't get to see bass like that very often, they are few and far between. We do have big deer though, so I guess there is a trade off. I will deffinately head out there in the fall when the weather cools off, and a canoe is in order for sure. |
