The sky’s were clear and the air refreshing as I deeply breathed in the east Texas morning. The smell of a distance 2 stroke enticed my senses as I prepared my Triton for the days Tournament. Rods and reels strapped to the deck the baits tied on I backed the Silverado down the ramp and dipped the Mercury power Triton into the calm waters of Fork. With my wife at the wheel and I with my coffee steaming from my mug we started the engine as the smoke billowed in the air. We headed to our first spot of the morning with the anticipation of landing that first bass. The waters were calm with the movement of bait fish slapping at the waters surface, we cast our lines hoping to land that fish of a lifetime but it wasn’t to be… The longing of a 10 pound bass eluded us but the hope of another day awaits us here on Lake Fork… The morning bite wasn’t too bad we ended up with 3 fish to weight-in but no checks for us. Sunday was the same deal the fish schooled up all around us but only 4 keepers. I ended up with big bass with a 2.20. Michele and I won Husband and wife for the weekend. The open was tournament went very well but the weights were light. 5.67 was the cut off at 20th place. The winning stringer was 11.78 with a kicker over fish coming in at 8.11. The wind was really bad around mid morning both days so you really needed to be on fish early and plan the day out because the wind would beat you bad on the main lake. I did have a great time fishing a drop shot. Michele was catching fish on traps. The morning were really great it so nice to fall have here now… OzzieFish "Glory to GOD in the Highest"

I'm kicking myself for not entering this tournament. We caught a total of 15 fish with only six being dinks. The rest were good tournament fish. Once the wind picked up it was all I could do to keep from falling over board Congrats on a good turn out for Irving Bass Club. |

Yep, drop shot...I really started to get the hang of this thing. I think most folks over work the bait and that what I've been doing. The standing are posted now. www.irvingbassclub.org OzzieFish "Glory to GOD in the Highest"

Holly Mollie..... 297 WOW !!!! gett'n right popular there OZ.. Good Job. The setup on that Dropshot will help raise your catch rate too. I was hard headed, until I saw the difference for my self.. Mainly the correct rod, main line and length of leader and hook size. That's the ticket, the only concern with the reel is the size of the eye on the reels paw. That's for enough relief so the union knot(main line/Leader) can pass through freely. Other wise it's a non issue. I like the Shimano MG-50's with a Loomis DSR820 or DSR822. However Mr. Hendrix has built some D/S rods for us that are outstanding from a Custom Loomis Blank.. Their SWEET... Billy |

I've been using 14lbs fireline with no leader on a Falcon 7ft lowrider shakey head rod. I think I'm going to try a 10ft fluorocarbon leader like you mentioned. It may increase my catch. I've been using a Shimano spinning reel but I'll be darned if I can remember the model. Fish seem to react better to a stand still bait then shaking it like you hear so many talk about. It hard to keep the bait stitting still for me but I need to catch fish so I do it!! OzzieFish "Glory to GOD in the Highest"

Sounds like a successful tournament. Congrats on the fish that were caught. If you're richer than me I think we're related. If you're poorer than me I know we're related. My bass club webpage http://texbass.8m.com/
