These look like perch from one of the great lakes. If so, these are what I ate at all the Friday fish fry's that my parents use to take me to back in the wonder years. Thanking Him, all day long --- tomc

I've heard the gang up in Lake Michigan talk about how tasty these guys are. Problem is, their numbers are on a serious decline in the Great Lakes now. Zebra mussels have a large play role. Darn mussels showed up back in 1888 and the free swimming larvae have managed to spread everywhere. Zebras filter the water very well, eating zooplankton. That in turn has hammered this fishery. The water up there is crystal clear in large areas now but it's taken its toll on certain fish species, most particularly these perch. Overfishing whats left has hurt them as well. I guess they need to introduce more drum into the lake to help control? |

It would constitute me going too far North to taste some of those. Unless I had a friend nice enough to bring some back down here to the south... I've heard they are some good eatin... Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

I used to catch these perch by the tons in Canada. Once you find a school, you can fish forever. They are especially fun for the kids. Be safe, Rayzor |
