My youngest, Corey, and I went to Lavon Saturday afternoon for a little fishing and a chance to run the boat. It had been since the beginning of October since I had the boat on a lake and the weather was holding so it seemed like a great idea.

We got to the lake and ran down to the rocks. I chunked my crankbait out and on the first cast caught a sandbass. Cool... We didn't get skunked... :-)

We fished the dam for a little while with no bites and moved to the RR bridge where I soon caught a 2.5 to 3 pounder. I caught 2 more on that stretch of rocks with the crankbait and we decided to try the back of a cove.

We fished the cove with no luck and since the wind had quit I wanted to let Corey drive my boat. We headed back out to open water and I asked Corey if she wanted to drive. Nervously she replied -- I guess.... I took another life jacket and put it behind her so she could reach the hot foot and off she went.

I sat next to her at first and helped her with the trim and showed her how to go from forward to reverse and neutral. She eventually got the boat up to 46 MPH and she had a blast.
Thank you Lord for my family and the waters I get to fish

Really cool Mike. Driving anything is a huge deal for any kid. She will be talking about that to her friends all week.

Thanks everyone, my best memories of the time I spent with my dad were on the water and I am grateful that I have the opportunity to make memories with my kids on the lakes. I think 2008 will be a great year fishing with them because I will include them in as many individual tournaments as a junior angler as possible.

Great job Mike. You're my nomination for dad of the year. Thanks for sharing the pics.
