01/16/08
Air temp upper 40’s, cloudy, drizzle. Wind at about 10-12 out of the S or SE
Water temp was 50 or 51 degrees at the ramp and the 2 areas we fished.

I made it out to Fork Wednesday with my ex-bro-in-law, Chuck.
Caught one slot fish, on a red/white trap, the first hour we were there. During our second hour, I stepped on the trolling motor foot-control and the cable broke in the head of the trolling motor. Got a new cable put on at the shop there at Lake Fork Marina.
Went back out and when I hit the trolling motor, the new cable came loose from the foot-control end. (The old guy that owns the business, “Jack”, can’t see very well. So if you get your trolling motor worked on there, make sure the young guy that works for him does the work;) Jack normally does not actually do the work but he was just trying to get me back on the water quickly. I took the boat back and the young guy that works for him was there and fixed it right.

Finally, we launched again about 2:30pm and we fished for about 3 hours without even something that resembled a bite.

At dusk, we went back over to where I caught the trap fish in the morning and I caught another fish right away on a trick worm. It was getting dark and we started catching fish. We were even catching them after dark on t-rigs in 2-6 feet of water.
We caught 5 fish total for the day, all from the same small cut in about a 30 yard stretch. Color did not seem to matter. All of the fish were in the lower end of the slot.

We fished until about 7:30pm. I thought it was kind of strange, for this time of year, that the fishing turned on after dark. Chuck said that the “best fishing time of the day” was said to be at 6:15pm according to some fishing table that he had looked at.
I thought it might have been because the cold front was bearing down on North Texas. The weather after dark had a cool balmy feeling to it after the wind died down.

Man---- I didn't know Fork had a sports clips.

That's a sorry no good cheating S.O.B. that did that..

Thanks for the report Tommy..
What you guys experienced has been very typical lately.. In fact 5 bites is a good day. Give it about 2-3 more weeks and it will be much better..

Thanks guys!

Looking at the weather for the next 10 days..... I bet the water drops to the mid to upper 40's.
I know the fish are on a internal clock with the days getting longer, but I'm thinking this cold stretch slows them down a bit.
Probably won't keep me off the lake.......
